High Lift Mounting
Looking for idea's where to mount a High lift in a FJ40

if you still have runnign boards, you could mount it there- standing up with the base on the running board and a single bolt through the body. Pretty popular down here for hilifts. Seems to work ok.

I made some brackets which are bolted to where the seat-belts normally attach.
My High-Lift is secured by these brackets which allows me to mount it horizontally...behind my bench seat. It's only about 2" above the floor, and does not take up that much room. It is easy enough to remove, only had to remove it once...a buddy needed to borrow it. Slee makes a super slick mount for the factory roof rack. They hold the jack just fine. Occassionally, depending on what yer stuck in, you might want to have someone to pass the thing to off of the roof - if you are slicked up in mud, holding onto the rack and stepping on some slanting slider or tire, you could slip off, which is no big deal, ... , unless you have hi-lift jack following you too! HTH.

I just pulled mine from the front bumper and mounted it to my rack like this.

Being that it's a 60 incher, I had it on my front bumper but when I built the smaller 46" bumper in the avatar I needed to move it. I think I'd rather it be in the back by the tire carrier, but this works for now. I kind of think it looks cool up there, but I kind of don't. It was super easy though, I just welded the bolt to the bracket and slipped it on.

the drivers side bracket has a bolt that aids in re-securing the High-Lift when you are done.

the passenger side bracket has a nut, and the bolt has some left over bushing material to eliminate any unwanted vibrations:

The base is easily removed/re-attached by pulling the original pin, and is secured 1/4" off the floor.
The other thing I like about my brackets is that they utilize EXISTING threaded holes in my 40. No drilling required and Rubithon tested

Since my seats fold out of the way, I am still able to get to the Lift w/a bed full of gear.

I did a very similar setup to Posers above. I took off the base and fashioned some mounts (Home Depot style like some of my other posts on making my own pieces) and attached the jack to a rear rack just behind the center mounted spare tire. I also made some home-made rubber shock absorbers to mellow out any up and down motion. I added a rifle gun lock to lock it to the rack.

What'd you do with it? I don't suppose you ever run a hard top on that rig, judging by the temps in that pic.

I ran a piece of allthread (the biggest that'll fit through the jack) through the center of the spare and the tire carrier. Slide the jack on through one of the holes and tighten down with a wingnut and washer. Cheap and simple. Secure with a small paddlock through the allthread or some other means of security.

Hi All:
"Trojan," thanks for sharing, but that is BAFU! Typical poseur crap! "Poser," you rock man! Going open-top in the 'freakin snow! I find hi lift jacks to be a pain in the ass to deal with! Cumbersome to carry and potentially dangerous to operate. All I can say is to carry a can of penetrating oil (i.e. Kroil, WD40, PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench, and so on) along for the ride incase you have to use the hi lift; chances are the jack mechanism will need some lube after sitting out in the weather and dust between use. I'll admit since several of my buddies always carry a hi lift I've started leaving mine at home! Regards, Alan' |
