Impact Wrench Specs
I'm looking at the specs for an IR 213C impact wrench here:
http://www.irtools.com/IS/modelComp_...61,862,311,219 It shows that the "Av. Air Consump. cfm" to be 4.2, and the "Min. @ load cfm" to be 22. What's the 22cfm? It seems like it would take a lot of compressor to sustain that flow. |

To get the potential use out of it, I would say that a two stage 80 gallon compressor is what you would want. IR T30, something in that neighborhood, of course the use/duration matters alot.

I wouldn't worry about the 22 cfm spec, I think that might just be the cfm used for the 1/2 second that you are breaking the bolt free, or the last 1/2 second of tightening it. I think the important spec is the avg. cfm. How often are you going to use it? Occasionally, or all day/everyday? I've got the 2131QT http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...tive+Air+Tools that I run off a Dewalt framing compressor that's only 4 gal, but has 4.5 cfm @ 100psi. The compressor has no problem keeping up, but it will run alot since it's only a 4 gal tank. I only use the wrench occassionally, so that doesn't bother me, I just put the compressor around the corner and run a long hose, so I don't go crazy from the noise. Hope this helps.

Impacts are used intermittently, unlike sanders, grinders, etc., the full load CFM is provided to setup airline and fittings, they must have enough flow to deliver the burst of air needed to break bolts loose. IR 1/2" impacts will work, but won't make full power on 3/8" line and 1/4" quick disconnects. If you use this setup, use the shortest line possible and the fewest 1/4" disconnects possible, preferably only one at the tool, if you need a disconnect on the other end of the hose a 1/2" one is better.
