Scepter fuel can gasket

Anyone know of a source for replacement gaskets for Scepter fuel cans? Thanks.

Here is a list of the part numbers for the Scepter cans, I'm not sure who carries repalcement parts, you may want to try:

+1, call Brigade Quartermasters and ask for the gaskets, they're not shown on their website, but they do sell them according to people who've ordered them as posted on Arfcom.

Make sure to order the VITON gaskets if you're using the MFC's for gasoline; the standard rubber gasket will swell and eventually cause the gasket retainer to crack, or worse, the cap to crack.

Good luck.

Al

If you can find VITON gasket sheeting of the right thickness you can cut your own. All they are is die cut out of a larger sheet.

This is what I did. I bought a sheet of rubber gasket from McMasterCarr and cut to the right size.

Parts are no longer available for Sceptre military style cans in the US, so if they've got them it's old stock. Best bet would be to take the old one to a hose supply place and see if they've got something close.

People were ordering parts from BQ as of last week. Call them for the gaskets and caps.

Rubber gasket material = use for diesel.

Viton is required for gasoline. If you use rubber/neoprene for gasoline, you run the risk of cracking either your gasket retainer (not a big deal) or the cap (a big deal).

I just called BQ and was told that they no longer sell to individuals by federal law. Cans and replacement parts (gaskets, caps, straps) are only available to military and law enforcement.

I picked up several of these, since they were cheap, to try out Buy Gas Can Lid Gasket at Army Surplus World.

The two Scepter cans are ones that I picked up at a surplus store, one still had a gasket but the other did not. These new gaskets are ca. 1-2 mm too wide in both the inner and outer dimensions, but can be squeezed into the cap. With the can which had the old gasket, I left that gasket in place and stuffed in a new one. I filled this can the other day and with the cap on tightly it did not leak even when turned upside down. I stuffed one gasket into the cap of the can which lacked a gasket and filled it also. It still leaked. I've since added a second gasket but have not had an opportunity to test it yet. I'm thinking that with two gaskets it will not leak.

Even though these gaskets may work I'd still like to track down some Scepters.
