Luggage/packs/duffels

I know the guys at Overland Journal know about Maxpedition gear, but some might not. I have bought several items from this company, and I'll tell you that you're not going to find a higher quality, tougher bag, or pack anywhere than this place. Check them out.....

Maxpedition.com Hard-Use Gear - MAXPEDITION HARD-USE GEAR® (Primary innovator and premier manufacturer of outdoor, hunting and tactical nylon gear)

Those look good for packs, but for soft bags/gear/luggage nothing beats Filson.

Oh yeah...thanks for the post! Would you mind taking a couple pics of yours when you get it with something that gives me some scale? If its not too large I might want one!

Thanks!

I will !

It will have to wait til I return though. My order for the Doppelduffels will arrive here at the house after I am gone back to work. I got one for me, and one for the wife (his & hers). I plan on using these for everything from long distance 4wd excursions in the cruiser, to overseas travel to europe. We plan to eventually go see Draculas castle in europe after she graduates from school.

I think you're going to want one or two of these bags. My buddy has one and that caused me to take the plunge. It's awesome. Super heavy duty construction.

Hate to bust everyones bubble on Max Gear Bags....I know they're kinda popular right now, but you may want to look at Eagle gear

Eagle Industries - Tactical Equipment, Tactical Gear, Military Supplies

I've been using Eagle gear for years and always purchased Eagle for professional use and recently purchased a dozen Max gear bags for a unit based on input from the people in the unit...I got to say I expect to take advantage of their "life time warranty" soon.

Their buckles, strap attachments and overall quality is low grade. They are manufactured in Taiwan and I expect the straps to break the first time a guy overloads the gear bag.

Eagle is made in the US (Fenton, Missouri) and uses metal attachments, heavy duty fabrics, YKK zippers and buckles......As I've said, we've used these things for years and the only repair i've had is to repair (warranty) a worn out zipper on a bag that thousands on miles on it.....Good luck with whatever you go with!

My 2 Cents

You must be referring to another company, as this stuff uses high grade materials, including UTX buckles, YKK zippers, and DuPont 1000 denier cordura nylon.

Maxpedition Hard-Use Gear® - Company Overview

I have used Eagle products in the past as well (Former US Marine), and I know quality when I see it. The Maxpedition stuff is high quality, and I'll continue to use it til otherwise noted.

a man purse...

I'm going to pick up some Red Oxx gear for business and expedition gear. Their safari and cargo type bags look nice.

When I saw the web page my first thought was how great that product would be for travel where you had to check through customs. Sometimes it's a long hike from your arrival terminal to the customs area.

uh..."chica"

dude...do I need to direct you to a spanish-english translator?

the chica is meant to be a purse. not a wanna-be-tough-guy-man-bag.

NTTAWWT has become part of the interweb vernacular.

Kinda on topic, Seinfeld also had an episode where Jerry started carrying a "European Male Carry all".

Not to burst everyones bubble- but most of these are "water resistant" and not Waterproof. I cant justify the connotation of "expedition worthy" without that.........even if the buckles and zippers are strong enough to carry an extra 20lbs worth of watersoaked gear.

Theres slim pickins for durable-waterproof gear.

The North Face used to have a bag for expeditions called the "Water Duffelo". They stopped selling it because it was expensive enough that nobody bought it. My buddy has two of them. They are waterproof, but at the cost to buy them, nobody went for it.

My big bags of clothes (a-la Doppelduffel) will go inside my Cruiser, and will not get soaked. Other stuff like sleeping bags, blankets, tent etc will go on the roof rack. Sterilite/Rubbermaid containers will hold all that stuff and will keep it dry.
