Engel fridge Q?

I might have a line on an 40 qt Engel with a cover for a good price, $350. Will it fit in the rear of the 80 with one third row seat in place? Should I buy this at this price if it fits?

That is a steal even if it doesn't fit. I wouldn't miss it, they don't come up used that often bud.

Go for it, then make it work.

It should fit with one seat

I am going to check it out tomorrow. It is only 40 minutes away and comes with a transit cover. The description is "like new" so I guess it will be hard to loose on this one. The owner turned it on this morning after we talked. This afternoon he said it was frozen solid in @ 3 hours. He just wanted to make sure it worked.

I'll post picks after I pick it up.

Grab that before it's gone. That's a great price. It's the best piece of camping gear ever.

It's less than half the width of the 80s rear deck, so it should fit easily with one of the rear seats still in place.

it'll easily fit on one side of the cargo area (i.e. with 1 seat in).

the price is good, especially with the transit bag.

congrats on finding a good deal.

if you don't have 12v running to the cargo area, it's a fairly easy mod.

I'd suggest you ask the age and the power consumption before driving 40 minutes to check it out. The older units use significantly more power. I have two older 60 quarts Norcolds. One use 7 amps, one 5.5 amps. New ones use 4.2 amps. Just something to think about if you plan on powering it for a weekend camping.

Peak power consumption on freeze is 2.7 amp. The unit is a 2004 unit. Like advertised it is like new. Pics:

Yes it will fit.

Yes that's a smokin' deal.

2.7 amps is the same as the new models

Grab it. Quick!

Hijack: So what's that green pad in the bottom do anyway?

My Norcold doesn't have it. Will it explode without it?

Yes I bought it. Those pics are in my front room. I placed a cup of water in it to test it at 1pm. It is almost frozen solid now at 3:30. I think I will be happy with this unit. It fit fine with room to spare with a third row seat in place. I have installed a fuse block under the center counsil with an outlet in the second row. I will bring an outlet to the back for the fridge now.

I have no idea what the green pad is. It may be an owner installed accessory.

Nice score. I just purchased an ARB version for way more than that after shipping and no bag!! You got a great deal.

I ran a dedicated wire to the fridge from Aux battery for mine.

The green pad goes on the very bottom under the wire mesh basket. I think it's to prevent damage to the bottom of the fridge (inside).

Mine at a setting of about 1 1/4 gives ideal frigde temps. Anything over that is a freezer. This was prior to get getting real hot though. So we will have to see what happens.

Yeah, you got a smokin' deal. I got mine the day I left for Cruise Moab and it was great having cold food and beverages the whole time without worrying about ice or the mess! I have the 34 quart version. I keep at a setting of 3.5 out of five and that gets me about 33 degrees inside.

You won't regret buying that.

On the Engel there is a setting that says "ref" between the 1 and the 2. Leave it set there. Anything higher and you will have frozen food after awhile. I even tape the dial to keep it from getting turned.

Yeah awesome deal , I paid $580 for mine used with the transit bag and mount. I have to say this is the best thing I have ever bought for camping or whatever. I set it to freeze and keep ice cream in it for my kids Bday parties at the park- in 100 degree heat !

My Engel came with the green pad too. But I did not see any description of its use in the owners manual. Perhaps just to protect the bottom. Another thought would be a horizontal divider for frozen items in the bottom refrigerated on top? An idea I have not yet explored.

Congrats on a nice find. Like many other said that this is absolutely a smoking deal. The fridge seems to be in an immaculate condition. You luck out on this one, good deal

I bought an ARB freezer/fridge with the t-bag for $830.00 shipped. I thought I made a good deal until I found this thread.

Somewhere I read (like on the Engle or Norcold site) the green pad is actually intended to go on the top of everything if you want a little extra insulation/efficiency....

Like covering the top of a cooler content with a layer of newspaper...
