A knock off of the AutoHome Columbus tent. Even the mounting system and website graphics are same/simlar. Warranty period is pretty short, and support is non-existent in North America.

Based on the current cost of shipping it will likely cost more than a Columbus when landed here. Fairly stiff duties (about 10%) would also apply. Their price advantage is based on comparison to the landed Australian retail price of the Columbus, which is much HIGHER than the US price of the Colombus Variant - and close to the US retail for the Columbus Carbon Fiber model.

I noticed in the little Apollo/Columbus comparison, it lists both the Apollo and Columbus at 65 Kg (143 lbs). From the Autohome website, it lists the Columbus (small) at 95 lbs. Mike, does that 95 lbs include the ladder?

Actually, the Columbus Variant small weighs in at just under 93 lbs. This does not include the ladder. The ladder weighs in at a hefty SIX pounds. When we order the tents built, we order the top of the line, tall alloy ladder - extends to 110". This ladder was tested in the AM General labs, and supported 800 pounds before collapsing. All alloy, all the time.

Hi all, I too am wondering if any one has used or seen the Apollo roof tent as shown above. They were recently advertised for aprox $ 800.00 here in Australia which seems cheep enough if the product is OK.
With out actually being able to get my hands on one to inspect it, I am hoping someone may already own one of these and could perhaps enlighten me with the pro's and con's.
Thanks in advance.

I love how they photoshop the tent onto the Toyota brochure pictures! High class.

Yes, that tent is sitting mighty low on the silver FJ Cruiser.
That caught my eye too.

That is pretty poor marketing if they stooped that low.
Here is the real deal
Not a Columbus though, but the medium Maggiolina AirLand.

Hi, again, interesting that one of the photo's looks photo shopped in respect to how low it actually sits.
I found a single link on utube ( where it is being opened ). It appears to sit very low on the vehicle shown. But I would like to here from someone who may have had hands on experience with one. I understand you only get what you pay for but as it seems to be a copy from another brand, it usually comes down to how well it was copied. Being a new entry on the market, there's no point in me writing it off just yet.
Any other thoughts?

Corey, I think your right"

The FJC if fitted with an ARB low profile rack allows a RTT to sit very close to the roof. This may be what they are showing, instead of the prot installed number.

Mike

Yes Mike, and I recognize that picture too.
It is from the FJ Trail Teams on a winter run back in '06 I believe, before the FJs were released to the public.

I can not remember the location of that photo shoot, but it is in one of my FJ Cruiser catalogs that the dealers release that has news in it.
About three of them have been released now.

Should be able to find the pic by drilling around here.
Toyota.com : Vehicles : FJ Cruiser : Bulletin
If the picture is no longer there, I am sure I can find it in one of the mentioned catalogs I have if I am correct.
