Re:7/8-18 tap
http://www.mscdirect.com is where I got my 5/8 and 3/4 fine left hand taps...ordered on a Friday at 6pm online, delivered on Monday. ZERO complaints, and while they are import cheapies, they survived my abuse doing my links.

7/8-18 tap
Thanks. McMaster-Carr said no, Grainger said no, no Fastenal in my area according to the yahoo yellow pages.
I talked to MSC yesterday and they do have some in IN, but they were kinda spendy. $80 and $120ish. There's a 4x4 place selling them for about the same price. I was kinda hoping to eliminate the middle man. For four ends I might just have to send it out and have it done. Pobably should have just ordered the rods pre-tapped from shakerbuilt. I wonder if I can cut good inside threads on the lathe. Might take more skill than I posess. |

7/8-18 tap
You might ask a couple of local machine shops to do the threads for you. Someplace with one of the manual/CNC engine lathe's could knock that out pretty quickly. Probably cost less than one of the taps...at least at the shops I have worked in the past.

Re:7/8-18 tap
$30.22 for a 7/8-16 plug tap on MSC, page 240 in their catalog, part number 04848123
Imported, but mine were too and they work great. $52 for a US model tho...and didn't find the right threads in a left hand either... |

7/8-18 tap
I called around here in Mizzoo. $44 for the RH, but the LH is special order $135 and 2 weeks away. Not much help, but I'm happy to buy and ship for you if comes to that. You'd have to pay me back though.

7/8-18 tap
Thanks for all the lookin' gentlemen.
Woody, the 7/8-14 is pretty cheap. the 7/8-18 not so much. I don't mind goin' for the furr-in brand as I only want to tap a few. Zebrabee - Local guy wants $100 to do them on the lathe. I wish I had the skills as I got the lathe. theo- thanks for the offer, but I think I'm gonna go with the Poison Spider inserts. I got the Spidertrax ones in the 40 and I really liked the ease of installation and the clean look. I just found out this morning that PS has 'em for the 7/8-18 thread for $12 each. I don't think I could get the two taps anywhere for $50. |
