I went last year. Not to the whole "thing", but just to check it out. We wheeled all day long at Truckhaven then headed over via the crossover trail and pumpkin patch. Checked out the vendor area, rigs and food.
While I would go again, it didn't leave that much of a positive impression. If you camp within that small jungle, you'll be breathing alot of dust. I would have prefered to check out the vendor area and then camped somewhere away from the dust and noise.

Nope, cause its all jeeps!!!

Just kidding.. i've been several times in the past.. but i've been passing lately cause its just too out of hand with near death rollovers and drunks galore. Seems like every year now someone dies. I dont know, im becoming a old man that loves my peaceful desert instead of kegerator party head quarters. Dont get me wrong, i've burned down a couch and ran it over out there before for TDS so i understand what its all about. I've been a part of that group... In fact i should have some buddies out there this year. I just dont feel like doing it much anymore. Im not the party animal i once was

Eh last time i checked Mark is Bluetribal? lol

Yes, its a paid run that they host. Different level.. etc. Its all on their website.
Home of Tierra Del Sol Four Wheel Drive Club of San Diego! - Home

It's ONLY the second largest event in the Nation. Number one in the Nation would be Moab Easter Jeep Safari. Were talking thousands of rigs. Its like a mini city in the middle of the desert.

Many dont pay and just do their own thing. One year i went and joined the paid run , takes forever.. like all damn day cause there's like 100's of rigs in each group, seriously. Another year i just tooled around in our own group. Way better.

Here's a shot of my XJ in line first time to TDS in the paid group. Im close to the front in relationship to whats behind the camera. This is like 2001 or 2002.

Some more pics of the chaos.

I've showed up the last few years. I'll be there this year but only to check out the vendors. Last year we left from my place and wheeled our way there. it was moved to from truckhaven to ocotillo I think.

Gee . . . sounds like fun.

I've been out of the "partying scene" for what seems like forever now. It's a strange transition when your friends still want to go out and you're just not into it anymore. You can almost feel youself getting old . . . I had my fill.

I saw it and figured it was yours. The caption said "Primedia 4x4 Camp".

I'm just messing around, it's still fun to go idiot watching. I am not the partier anymore but I still enjoy the event. This event is way way bigger Easter Heep Sufari, if you go by head count.

I go every year, for the event and people watching and the money goes to keep that desert open. The move to the South sucks but hopefully the event will go back to Truckhaven next year.

dont camp in the washes, this year Im gonna camp at Truckhaven and drive over on Poleline Rd

I will be attending this year as well. If anyone wants to come out and go on a few runs with us let me know. We will not be going on any of the offical runs but rather making our own.

I will be out there with a group from Ultimateyota. Last year as 619toy said we wheeled Truckhaven on Sat, and cut across to Ocotillo Wells Sat afternoon.

This year I will be leading a run..probably similar to last year. This year I will not be sleepingin the dust bowl.

My parents just locked in a visit for the first week in march. I had wanted to take them out for some wheeling. I also wanted to check out the TDS. My dad is a life long professional mechanic so he would likely dig the vendor section and my mom is pretty easy going for anything not toooo crazy. I think as long as we stay away from the more wild camps and leave before dark we should be OK. I would be interested in going on some runs with you guys as you all seem mature yet fun. I'm 37 which puts them up there in years but they are by no means old. I promised them I wouldn't bounce there heads off the windshield or jump the truck. lol. I think they see too many crazy vid's on the net ya know?

eta: YouTube - offroad Toyota Land Cruiser

yes, it's the video of the 80 bouncing and jumping around till it flips in the end.

Yeah, we are a pretty laid back group and we are not into trashing our rigs like the kids seem to do. I think your parents would fit in just fine and enjoy, as long as you stay away from the party camps.

I never get tired of watching that video. 80's are so damn cool.

Tare, I might be able to make it down at least for a day and would be very happy to stay away from the official runs.

If anyone wants to hook up PM me and I will give you my cell number. If we need to we can all meet up at our company's new trailer. Not sure if it will be in vender row or off to the side of vender row. Should be pretty easy to find it's all black with all of our Magazine logos plasted on the side. Saturday for us will be spent wheeling at Truckhaven Hills no offical runs.

I'll likely check out the vendor section sometime saturday. I won't really have time to play this year. I thought my folks would be here for this but they are getting in on monday and I still have to sand blast the bathroom walls and take out the trash if ya know what I mean.. I'll keep on eye out for 80's and other cruisers to say hey if I spot ya but I can't spend much time up there.

No clue, drove out to the camp, everyone was on the run, did part of the trail then cut across to Poleline Rd and went to Truckhaven, wheeled for a while and watched the crowds, didnt like the aggro vibe, drove up to the telephone booth and headed home. Lots of State Parks Officers at Truckhaven, which is needed. Some folks think they are above the law.
