Hey Mark

That is the exact run we did last time, hit all those spots!

Most cool, but ya gotta move at a quick pace to cover it all.

If you use a Garmin GPS, let me know and i can give ya the file i made for it!

So I am starting to do some research and am looking for any advice you guys could offer since I have never lead an expedition type run or ran any of the trails out there. There is a great write-up in the March/April edition of 4wd Toyota Owner Mag where they mention many of the spots I would want to visit. I would like to visit Devils Golf Course -282 ft below sea level the lowest spot in the US, and then most of the other locations are at the Northern end: Scotty's Castle, Ubehebe Crater, & The Race Track where the rocks move across the dry lake bed due to rain water and 70 mph cold winds.
So anyway if any of you are interested here is an online map Link to check out and I am thinking the first or second weekend of November and this would probably need to be a 3 day weekend trip.
I am totally interested in suggestions on trails such as Goler Canyon and others but in order to see most of the sites it will be hard to hit a bunch of trails.
We (Japanese TLC and Hilux )too are heading that way to similar spots on our way home from S&T Nov 2-4..looking to join anyone heading that way and can guide us around, suggest place to go , etc....email off line at alsenj@gmail.com

Hey Dave, can you PM me your e-mail address. I wanted to show you the trail I mapped out in Google Earth from Panamint Springs to the race track. I know no runs are planned ahead of time but I would really like to put this in the hat. It would be a decent run, about 60 miles in the dirt just to get to the racetrack and back to pavement over by Scotties castle.

Funny, we are talking about runs right now via email. The race track is one of them.. but i wasn't aware of a trail that ran over that way.

I edited the title of your post from Nov. to Oct.

Also, go to this thread.... if you want to join in on the potluck. David Bricker is doing spiedies again this year and they were damn good last year..

If it's too long I might have to buy some gas off of your roof! What are your prices? Do I get a Mud discount?

Where approx. is Saline Hot Springs? What is it close to?

So are you using the route I mapped out for The Race Track on Friday? If so then I think My buddy and I will do that on Sat.

Dave, I just checked the extended forecast for Friday the 26th and it is going to be sunny with a high of 87° and a low of 56°. Not too shabby, hopefully it will cool off a little more during the day as it gets closer.

Oh, yeah and I just verified my reservation and I am in the overflow camping area #30 and he said it will work out well since they are big sites and our cabin tent will fit nicely there.

And what is the new website for Panamint Charlie?

Right on, we are all in overflow too because we wanted more room and have 4-6 rigs in our immediate group. Plus it's awfully hard to pop open the roof top tent in the trees they have lining the tent sites lol (oh yeah and we'll have a army truck on 42" swampers).

The old site should automatically re-direct you?.. Here's the new URL.. http://www.panamintvalley.com/forum/index.php

Yeah, weather should be perfect IMHO.

Looks like a few friends want to stay a extra night go home Monday. We are going to try and swing it. I really rather stay instead of going back to work on Monday.

Dave since you asked about clean-ups the next one is at Chris Wicht camp on: Oct.27th & 28th. Meet at Balarat at 8am Saturday morning.

The BLM is pushing for this cleanup, be nice to see some offroaders make it. If I was'nt going to be in NM on Friday I would be there.

Brian

yeah i know about that one...

If you are interested, call me at 310-476-1731, or Marty Dickes, the BLM Wilderness person, at 760-384-5444 for more details.

Chris Wicht Camp Cleanup—Volunteers Needed

Chris Wicht Camp, as reported earlier, burned completely last September. It was the historic camp at the end of the county maintained road in Surprise, about a half mile below the Surprise Canyon Falls.

The Ridgecrest BLM has done their hazmat evaluation (reportedly found nothing dangerous), and has tentatively scheduled their cleanup for the weekend of October 27 and 28. BLM is calling for volunteers to help with some of the lighter work. (Removing vehicle and building carcasses is reserved for the professionals.) Again, if you are interested, call either myself or Marty at the numbers above.

From what i understand... there's kind of a snafoo with the land owners of Panamint Valley and the BLM. Many people are pissed off at that particular station and for good reason. Many land owners were promised keys to the gate and have yet to seen anything since it closed. So the 4wheelers in the area aren't super happy about it and i can understand that. The turn out of 4x4's probably won't be too high. The local BLM office rather see people on foot and horse traffic come through those canyons. Its a crappy situation and a sore spot among the Panamint folkes.

Hopefully we will be able to escape the ash! I just got off of the phone with my Dad who is in Ridgecrest and he said because of the wind change they are getting some smoke up there but it is pretty high in the atmosphere and they are not smelling it yet. But hopefully it wont drop down into the Valley of Death...
