11/27 - Desert Run / Pinyon Mtn. / Squeeze / Dropoff
Hey All,
My nephew will be in town and I thought I would take him out for a day run on the 27th of Nov. Day after thanksgiving. This is in the ocotillo/pinyon mountain area of borrego. We will start by going through the squeeze and then down the dropoff. Full size vehicles won't make it, it is best to have an fj40, jeep or other smaller vehicle, my 40 rubs a bit on the way through usually. Others with larger vehicles can try but can't guaranteed you won't get body damage. A 4runner might be able to do it, not sure. I have seen fj60's drive through it. I don't think an 80 would make it but you could try.
I would like to have at least one other vehicle in attendance as I have done the whole single vehicle thing out on this trail on a weekday many years ago and let's just say the outcome was not fun.
Let me know if you can make it for sure. Maybe's don't really help.
Noah

I may be interested but can't make the squeeze. I'll mention it at the Beach n Toys meeting on Tuesday unless you plan to come.

nice Mike, let's plan on it! I am in for sure. I figure we only need 2 trucks, just did not want to head out there alone, sent you a pm....
I may make it to the bnt mtg, I am going to try, hopefully I won't be watching the little one, it would be easier that way. If I am not there, yes please mention it, thanks.

I think the last 80 that tried to make it through the squeeze ended up with 4 feet of mangled sheet metal, on both sides

Great way to burn off turkey. Don't think I'll take my FJC thru the squeeze, but I'll go everywhere else. Post details, thx. jd

This saddens me. I've always wanted to check that place out. If my buddy brings his 40 down this year, we might just run into you out there somewhere. I've been on a good amount of the trails out that way but never did the squeeze.

Got pics of this and take pics if you do make it out!
How much narrower is a 60 than an 80? My main concern from pics and video I have seen would be the passenger roof. That seems to be the closest item to the rocks and seems that you would have to slip off of the rock to hit your door panels.

I wouldn't take my 80 through there. Problem is that on the squeeze the left side is higher and it swings you right against the wall while going through it. I have smacked my 40 a few times on the diamond plating and the door handle.

Thats why if you really care about your paint, you put a towel on the rock and slide right past. I know it's chicken s--t but it is effective.

Shoot a towel how about a blow up pool lounger! HA HA
Well I will say it here as I have in the past. If I ever flop or roll my 80 I will take it through THE SQUEEZE! Of Course the FAT A$$ Hanna Booty I have on my rig I will probably get 90% though and then get stuck.. :(

I have seen the photos of a white 80 that went for it and it was not pretty.
If anyones could do it, it would be Sam because he no longer has a rear roof line.

I'm surprised that California hasn't 'widend' the squeeze like they did to the rock in Coyote Canyon that would bust out H2 rear passenger windows if they weren't careful! They took off about a foot of that rock and filled in lots of the dips/holes making it way too easy now. At least you had to pay attention around that rock that was off cambar as well in the direction of it before the 'work' on it. 'Supposedly' they 'smoothed' out Coyote Canyon rock gardens to make is more accessible to the INS vehicles...per a park ranger.
Take pics of Sam!!!

I was also thinking about that section widening and if they would do something like that to this one. Even though an 80 is my primary rig.. and I'd really like to be able to make it through without taking a beating, I hope they leave it alone. Goob's 40 ends up living at my place for awhile every now and then so... I'll wait.

Thinking about going but I have a 100 and can't fit in. Is there an alternate crossing/pass for that section? :(

I told the BnT guys around 10 am but 9 should be OK. What if everyone met then and the 2 groups converged after the drop-off. I would think that with cell phones and CBs we could pull that off. GPS coordinates of the convergance after the "wall" following the drop-off would be useful.

Mike, keep it at 10am, works for me, I don't see it taking all day and I would rather not start early, so 10am at the trailhead, let me know if you want to meet up at that mobil station on the way out?

Jim Eyerman and I are heading out Thursday evening. My buddy you met the other day who has the semi rig with all the toys might leave at the same time. We will meet everyone at 10 am at the trail head.
