Looking for good local 4 speed tranny for 3 speed swap

Looking for a good used pre 7/'80 FJ40/55 4 speed toyota tranny to replace my stock 3 speed at some point. Just trying to get all the parts including bellhousing, drive shafts and maybe transfer case together to switch it over at some point. Thought I would check local first. Saw a couple on here but most would require shipping and just not worth the hassle. My 3 speed runs pretty good so I just want to get all the parts on hand to replace when I have problems or need to do my clutch later down the road.

Chris

can you swap trans without having to change the drive line mounts?

The transmission/transfer are held by the bell housing - which has frame mounts

Thanks Tim! Much appreciated! I'll bring you out some beer for the exchange.

you want an pre 7/'80 FJ40/55 transmission. FJ60's have different t-cases... not worth the trouble to deal with parking brake issues.

Thanks Brett, was just reading up on the swap yesterday and noticed that it could be a problem, thanks for reminding me. Saw that 55 up here again this morning but didn't get to talk to the owner. I sent you a phone pic of it.

Not trying to be funny, but why?

The couple years I ran my F with 3 speed, it seemed fine.

You will still have a 1:1 top end.

?

Going up hills from a dead stop. Like I said, not going to swap it out until I have tranny problems or need to do a clutch job.

Dead spot between 2nd and 3rd on a hill is reason enough...

FJ40 4 speed transmission, transfer case, driveshafts and bellhousing

Here's one. Or just use more skinny pedal. U know my driving advice is spot on upside down.

Yeah, looks good. I talked to him a couple days ago and was going to buy but I think I am going to wait until I move so I don't have to move this stuff twice. The TC on this package is missing some covers and the flange(s). I guess I could re-use my TC covers on it and order a new flange(s) but I will probably wait until I am settled at my new place and have a definate place to store it. Thanks for the heads up Shane.

Still looking. Anyone, Anyone? I posted in the WTB classifieds. Rear main is starting to leak and want to do this at the same time since I gotta pull the tranny anyway....(Pretty sure there is going to be a "tranny" joke by Shane in some following post.)
