Kiln
Okay, odd question. Anyone know anyone with a kiln? I need to dry some wood. Not a large amount, less than a pallet's worth. Not looking for it as a favor (IE: free).

Only guy I know takes forever and I won't recommend. Call some of the local wood wholesalers and see if they know of anyone. Don't be surprised if it would be cheaper just to buy the wood you need.

The wood I have is virtually impossible to get (Elm, and from my front yard).
Thanks for the response.

My M-I-L has one but she uses it for her pottery, you're probably looking for something bigger, i'd guess?

yeah, unless it can handle 6 foot lengths I'm guessing it's going to be a bit small.

If its only 6' you might try setting up your own- plywood box/electric heater with fan/ ventilate and make sure you don't start a fire. I like the old stick it up in the attic over the summer- 120 degree + temps usually bakes the sap out pretty good. Then you don't have to use the wood till at least the end of next summer.

So to follow up on this I think I'm going to build my own little kiln. Did some research online, it really doesn't take much at all. Even if I never use it again (which I could for painting projects and such), it'll be cheaper than paying to have it done. After I'm done I could turn it into a storage room...
With a dehumidifier setup you don't even need to vent it, just a dehumidifier and a fan. You'll kill the dehumidifier if you want to use it a lot (the moisture is acidic), but for a few projects no big deal.
At the very end of the drying process I'll throw in some space heaters (we have some oil filled radiators that should work good, no exposed flame/elements) and crank up the heat to kill any bugs and really set the sap.
