The Hard way
Ever have the feeling you might be doing something the hard way? I just got my trashed power steering pump out but had to take the bracket with it. Is this the right way or did I miss an easier way to do it? I tried backing the 3 bolts out but the back one almost came out but ran into the exhaust manifold just before it came loose. Again this is why I'm not a mechanic!

That's how I got mine also, you are alright. When you get mad and start yelling things, walk away and relax, that helps me when I'm working.

I got it all out finally! Kief helped me with a brief run down on the carb removal which went unusually well. I have a nice pile of parts in the garage at the moment which is a bit intimidating but I feel good about doing this all with the help and knowledge from the MUD community. Thanks guys!
So the update:
I decided to replace the power steering pump, pull the smog pump/replace with pulley from JimC, pull the carb and have it rebuilt by Mark Offroad and do a complete desmog!
I thought I would replace all the belts while I'm at it ( I have the radiator out for added room
Anything else I should consider while I'm playing a mechanic for a few days?

I would recommend replacing the hoses that come off of the water pump and are really easily accessed with all that junk gone. Have you pulled the fan and shrowd yet? That will free up some room.
You will need a gasket for the exhaust gas pipe on the back of the exhaust manifold, and then a plater to block it off, the plugs for the air rail holes or weld up the bolts, gasket for the pipe that you cap off on the intake manifold, check to see if you have a rubber on your carb between the air cleaner and carb, 20 feet of good vacuum line (less what you have that is new) a couple of "Y" connectors for your vacuum lines, bag of zip ties, a couple of extra parts rigs around just in case, a welder, chop saw, some scrap metal.... I'm sure there is something I am forgetting.

Oh really?
Lets compare removing the starter on an LC to...oh....say an IFS 6 cyl Toyota pickup, circa 1991.
Which would you rather work on?
