This really isn't funny.
This last weekend my intention was to hoist out the front wheel bearings to check for water and rust.
I haven't been down on Clam Beach for quite a while but our club had a night run out on the river bar and we had many water crossing that night.
Sooo, Friday I did go down on Clam Beach, you know, right before I bust down the bearings.
Got the beast up on the stands Sat but forgot I had to do recycling so back on go the tires/wheels.
Sunday rolls around and I get the beast up on the stands one more time.
Now the kid needs his bike out at Blue Lake so like a 'good' dad I throw the tires back on and head out.
Last night as I'm getting the lug nuts loose before I put it up on the stands, I take the wrench to the DS nuts and as should be, with some 'umpf', loosen the nuts.
NOW I turn to the PS nuts and they are all loose. Not wobbly loose but certainly no torque involved. Seemed hand tight only.
I hesitate to think what might have been if the wheel had decided to go it's own way out on the highway. Who knows how many or what may have been involved.
I had to step back and admonish myself. This just can't happen.
Soo, yup, almost killed myself this last weekend. Glad things turned out ok.
Embarrassed and just glad to be alive,

Good news is, you probably would have been fine (health wise). There's been more than 1 person who's lost a tire while at speed.

The bad news is.....

Been there and done that on my 40 years ago, got a strange wobble and figured it out. It happens albeit it shouldn't!

I'll use a part of a phrase from our illustrious POUS :
We'll use this as a 'teachable moment'.

As long as someone doesn't loose an eye or finger.
Or kill someone.
