Things to (be) done before Mcgrew
Yeah, I totally stole the idea from jmkfj60.
- Replace belts and blue hub clutch fan (fan's ready to go, just needs to be installed). (Pending)
- Install and wire up aux electric pusher fan. (Done)
- Replace spark plugs and wires. (Done)
- New battery (and mount). (Done)
- Wash truck top to bottom, front to back. (Done)
- Fab up new CB Antenna mount and tune antenna. (Done, SWR is 1.1 on chan 1 and 1.2 on chan 40.)
- Finish sliders. (Half done. Someone had to go sailing!
)
So while installing my spark plugs I decided to tighten my valve cover bolts. Most of them were hand tight. I snapped the rear most passengers side bolt, using a very small wrench and applying almost no force.
Guess a valve cover gasket job is in the works for me at some point. Not worried about it considering how loose it's been up until now.

Battery:
The brown is from the primer I was using on the new mount sticking to the battery case. The joys of test fitting.......
The mount:
The tab on the right is on the driver's side. There's not enough room on that side to clear the J hook if you have it come out the top.
I will not be removing or reinstalling a new one of these. I had to have one foot on my DS tire, one foot on my bumper, and standing over the engine compartment to get it in. They're incredibly heavy (almost twice the power for only slightly larger dimensions than the next size down), so I think I'll be paying someone else to break their back....

I've already forgotten something but I can't remember what it was.

Belts and clutch fan is done. Amazingly easy, actually. I'm surprised at how quickly it went.
Now I got a nice startup roar. Shouldn't have to worry about overheating this time on the trail!

By next year, I need to put in rear lockers, something to do w/ changing gears to accomodate changing from 31" wheels to 33" wheels and also sliders and to take a look at my heating pumps? I was heating up on the trail and once or twice, had to turn on the heater, on an already blistering hot day!!! Arghhhh! Oh, also try to tighten up my mirrors from seizing as I drive!!! I got the "goop", just need to apply it on and hope/pray it works, otherwise more money out the window!

PM maintenance, to fix overheating = YES
Sliders = YES!
Lockers = Maybe
Good Tires = Yes
33" = Re-gearing No.

x2
Except for two spots (one at the very bottom, and one at the very top) where the ground was soft and slippery, I didn't need my lockers doing the sluice at all. In both those spots I could have probably backed up and gone at it again with a bit more speed, and been fine.
Don't get me wrong, lockers are great and you should get it at some point, but armor, PM, and good tires should all be higher priorities.

sounds like PM is your first priority...
FWIW the metaltech guys may still have a set of sliders on their rack that I ordered just before R&R'ing my radiator etc, thereby killing my armor fund. they are built for the '93-4 cats, not sure on your rig if they will fit skfj80, I think you are a 91?
