Slider'n'sand blasting
Thought I would make a new one and stop hi-jacking Josh's.
A friend dropped them off to me Sat. evening. They didn't look too bad, so I ran down and bought a couple wire brushes for my drill to clean up some areas. Well one thing lead to the next. The rust had gotten under a lot more of the powder coating than I thought. Picked up some air craft paint stripper stuff and and started down that road. More wire burshing.... more paint remover.... after 2 days of it and not getting the results I wanted said fawk it and called up a sand blasting dude. He was cool, cheap and quick. They look brand metal new. Took him about an 1/2hr. and cost as much as I would have spent on products, not getting nearly the result.
Here is were i'm at so far. I thought the red would look cool! j/k just primer.....
Anyone want to help get these thing on my truck this weekend! lol they're stinking heavy!

Looking good. Since you can pick any color I suggest white to match your rig, black is sooooo yesterday. Might pull mine now and blast them

Hmmm..... white...... I actually have been thinking of other colors, not much has struck my fancy yet.
The company is West Coast Sandblasting, behind Willies Boats on 62. His name is Shane. 944-9544. I guess he drags his sandblasting rig around for various projects. He said his was working on one of the bridges. So he's not all ways there and not much of office if any. Basically a open car port he blasts in. he can also do soda blasting. Charged me $60. I thought it was fair seeing the the freaking wire brushes and chemicals add up, plus my time and aggravation.

Well out of boredom and free (friend gave me the left overs from his recent project) I Herculined one of them to see what comes of it. So far not liking the look and prolly has other downsides. But what the heck.

So not a huge fan of the Herc stuff as far as looks, but . The regular ol' spray looks ah'ight, but not very tough at all. The Herc is crazy strong but sorta ugly.
Anyway here is my testing shots.

Works for me. Not quite carbon fiber but trail worthy and easy to touch up.

I think it will do for a season... right ? The scuffing on the first shot (cured for 3days, 2 coat of primer and 3 coats of dupilca satin... is from my finger nail, and anyone who know me know I dont have ANY)
Learning experience for sure and painting and me dont mix well unless its canvas and oils.

I used the herculiner in the bed of my tacoma, I liked it. I did two coats and it lasted, but I wasn't rubbing it over rocks.

I'm not a fan of how "chunky" most bedliners look. But hey, free is free.

Ya, Im not fan either, we'll see what that stuff does. Like you said free is free and was quick application to them ready to bolt up for McGrew.
Nothing permanent, had I found the por15 would have prolly gone that route.

Not to bad. I picked up a funky anlged 12mm box wrench to unbolt the brakeline braket, threw a couple washers it to help space it out. They just sorta nicley flexed out. , Hardest part was doing it by myself and try to prop the slider up and get the nutz and washerz on the uboltz.
Now one side is one i got a pretty good method

Nice! Keep it in the truck for when you mess up your u-bolts and need to unbolt one to fix it.

Ya ya.... :P There is defiantly some improvement to be made. Winter project will be add cat protection, convert to weld on/bolt on config like yours (if it works out well), reblast and re-paint with something else like por15 or whatever.
Little frustrating going through the work and not being 100% happy with the result.
