Amp Install Help

Ok, So have I this kick butt amp, but it is sorta large and awkward. 16x2x9. I'd really like to mount in the factory amp (oem stuff removed) location panel.

I need some advise on fab'n something to place it there. OR any other ideas on placement.

Im thinking this mostly will be a "hey can I drop by and show you" type a thing.

My goal or idea is is to mount this guy in a place that is out of the way for when I fold down the 2nd row seats I can still have a flat open area. It will not fit under the front seats nor the seconds.

Once the amp is place I was hoping/thinking having the sub connector on a audio plate, so I can simply plug in my JL w7 (already in a inclosure in my other car) with something like a bananna clip type connector or something along those lines.

The Amp is very heat sinked and has a built in fan.

Any ideas or help?

I'm not sure how much help I can be with amp install, it's been a long time since I worked at the Radio Shack but may be able to help find a place that it will fit...
I do have a dremel? with several handy bits that can cut plastic well and straight as your hand is steady

So after starring this for bit this weekend, think I have a viable solution..... JB Weld

Thinking I can use 4 of the brackets and JB'n to the inside rear quarter panel. They are soft enough that I can flex the base of them close to the contour of the shape of the panel. And then use some self tapping screws with a touch of thread lock.

What do you guys think?? Think the JB will hold??? Suppose the worst it would do is break loose, hear a large thud, a larger pop from the sub after shorting the power feed.....

Jerod is swinging by this afternoon to pick up the bazooka, and maybe the plan will change.

I'm not sure that JB weld will hold to the inside of the panel.

There are several adhesives that would likely work better. Personally I'd probably get Travis to weld it on, but that involves taking it down to bare metal and repainting afterwards, and could damage the paint on the other side.

Yep, That was my first thought on welding it, but really didnt want to re-paint or oops just blew thru my quarter panel.

Any other thoughts on adhesive? Elmers wont work, to water soluble. Ive JB'd some of my VW stuff, and it held surprisingly well, but not sure about it in this application.

Gorilla glue is a favorite of mine, but I'm not sure it'd work here.

I'd stop by Ace Hardware or Lowes and look for some of the adhesive that's designed to go over painted objects. There's some stuff that's rather permanent.

dont you have an inner strut to mount to, i mean what does the interior panel mount to?
could you weld off that piece instead of the outer quarter

The inside of the panel is very rough if painted at all.

Here is a pic of the space. I was really hoping to mount the amp facing to the inside given the fan would almost line up with the factory speaker grill for vent. But that put the bracket on the backside, so kinda funky on how to brace it?

Although, like I said Im just being a motard and not seeing a easy solution here......

I used a bunch of pop rivited 1/2" aluminum angle in there to make a mount for 1 10" speaker; my amp fit under the seat so no problem there, but maybe you could go aircraft style and fasten similarly? don't forget the dynamat, that is a buzzy "enclosure" once you exceed the factory speaker output, if you are going that route.

Instead of Dynamat use Second Skin's Spectrum. Absolutely killer stuff, and goes in places that Dynamat won't.

are you needing to retain that speaker?

if so i think you/someone could fab a similar bracket to the one the speaker is installed on to mount the amp

Actually the speaker is in a box, so I can remove it for space. Just the amp inside the panel. So not to worried about dyno or skinning the panel at this point.

i am thinking you could either use the panel its mounted too or make one similar to mount the amp.

Amp is installed Thanks guys.

Aric's solution ended up being the best case. Although I was hoping for the fan to be facing inwards towards the existing speaker grill for vetnalation, I had to flip it. There is sufficient space in there for air, and could all ways use a pc fan mod for draw.

Ill get some pics tonight.

Not that interesting but here is what I ended up doing. There are 2 metal screw at the top, the tape is just extra, there is epoxy underneath is various other lower areas of the bracket. It the epoxy breaks or whatnot the tape will/should hold good enough until I can re-do + the screws at the top easily hold, may just rattle like crazy if it happens t break loose on the trail.

LOL! Ya ya. Thank for the idearer on the bracket. I just kept over thinking that approach look for the best ventilation.

I dont even really know what that tape is used for. Its 3M 10 mil.
