Let me elaborate for him. He wants something that is already or mostly built, ie gears, lockers, lift would be nice, doesn't care about tires. Doesn't care about FI as there is a good chance it would go propane. Crossover steering would be nice. Also it must be a 5speed, and have 'decently straight' body panels. For the right vehicle up to $4000 is doable.

We went and saw that white one today at Elite. Its a 84 standard cab base model with 317,000 and he's asking $3500 for it. Engine was rebuilt and has less than 1000 miles on it, new weber carb, new clutch. He claims he has $3200 into the engine alone. It does have a crossover-highsteer kit on it, 3" Rough Country lift with blocks in the back. Body was OK, a couple good dents in it. It's running some 33" MTR's with about 40% tread, no gears, no lockers. He is including an extra transfercase to double up.
The underside and inside is covered with red clay, makes me wonder how he got so much of it inside the truck.
IMO it's a $2500 (at best) truck. It would have sweetened the deal if it was FI so we'll pass on this one.

That's the one we looked at in front of Elite. He's currently hot to trot on a Sami. He may get cold feet on the whole deal and just be my ride-along bitch for the rest of his life.

Yeah I talked to him about 4 times today so I have a pretty good idea of what he's thinking. He doesn't get on here very often so I fill in the blanks for him.

For some reason he doesn't want a 4runner, I tried to talk him into one before. He really wants a standard or extra cab w/ 4cyl 5spd.

I saw a super clean chopped 2nd gen 4runner on I-5 yesterday. It was headed the opposite way but it looked as though they left some overhang over the mini-bed in the back, the whole setup seemed to be done pretty clean.

I know I should get a yota.....there are just so many cool rigs to choose from out there. After great reflection and verbal abuse from my 55 brother, I now know that a mini or 60 is the only path for me--thanks for setting me straight!!!!!!
Sincerely, your ride along bitch.

There's a couple of trucks at the two auto dealers by the airport (on Vilas road). No idea on price, but one of them looked pretty decently built (solid front axle).
There's also a brown 60 at one that they wanted $2k for. The body looked in good shape, so I'm assuming the engine's blown up or something.
Didn't stop to look at any of them.
There's also a white 80 that's on North Pac....but that sucker is THRASHED. They want too much for it too ($4,500, if I were buying it I'd start at $1,500). Body is in good shape, interior is pretty torn up, front axle is probably completely shot (most likely needs new birfs, etc). Easily upwards of $2k to get it in decent condition again.

We went out and looked at this yesterday and much to my surprise Jason's buying it. The sellers taking off the tires/winch/battery but agreed to go down to $2000. Damn good deal if I do say so myself. We've got a line on some 36" TSL's, he's ordering 5.29's and a locker and by the time its all said and done he'll be into a hardcore wheeler for less than $3500!
