Possible Group Buy

I'm looking at putting together a possible group buy. If there's a lot of interest here, I might open it up to the 80's forum (and anywhere else, really).

There's a local place here (Fluid Connectors I think the name is) that has some straps.

Now, these are not straps designed specifically for pulling. They are straps designed for hoists and lifts, and carrying heavy loads.

And by heavy loads, I mean heavy. As in their "purple" strap is rated at over 40,000 lbs!

They have I think 3 different colors, for different ratings. IIRC it's around 7k, around 12k, and then the monster at over 40k. (Those are load weights, not breaking weights.)

Their mid one for a 10' strap is just $60. I think (if I remember right) the purple was $90. (Don't quote me on these prices, I will find out for sure on Friday.)

The company that makes the straps is in Portland, and they will make anything you want. Any length, any end connectors, anything. Want a d-ring? Want a hook? Want an endless strap? Want a length of 16.372 feet? Can be done.

So the question is, would you be interested in a group buy for these?

I got my 50' 80,000 lb strap off ebay for $45. They use it for helicopter logging but it was still a deal. I also got a 30' 20,000 lb strap off ebay for $20. I could never understand why people want so much money for those things new.

My only problem with eBay is you never really know what you're getting until you get it.

And isn't 50' a bit much?

I've been stuck well over 100' from people, sometimes they can't get to you and sometimes they need to be on the only solid ground around. I've also seen many straps break. It's better to be overkill than underkill!

The price does seem steep but I really should get a new strap . . . I'd probably go for the 40k by 30' if I was to.

The place here in town is pretty spendy, and the guy who runs it won't give much of a discount.

I'm going to contact the company directly and see what we can get.
