JSC at SNT?
Rachael and I are still weighting the cost/benefit ratio on driving 1100 miles round trip to Surf N Turf this year... Anyone else planning on heading south? Or would this be a good weekend for us to explore a "SNT North" option at the OR dunes?

Well, not that I'm a member of your club yet, but my plan is to go this year.
Now, it gets complicated from here. (Ramble On) I'd like to come up to your Oct meeting/run and join the club. I'd wanted to go camping over the Columbus day week end also.
There's a good chance my local club, Lost Coast 4x4's, is going back up to the Mcgrew to clean up the mess we made last week end.
Got a little static(rightly so) about us not making any attempt to clean it up. We're better than that and will probably make it right. Then, a week and a half later I'd like to leave for SnT. Yikes. Maybe a little too much for Russ' pocketbook. I'll have to weed things out and find out my priorities.
Sure would like to go to SnT. Long way though.
We'll see.

I do recall seeing Garett's name on the list.
I requested the days off, but it's the middle of season and doubtful I'll get them.

I think I'd be way down for having a SNT North!

My name is on the SNT Mob too.... Hell, the countdown is named after me!!!
But I'm thinking that SNT N. may be a go this year! I checked the weather, and they say average temps for early Nov. are around 60.... So it's only 10 lower than the Pismo average.... I guess we'll see.....
Plus from Yreka it's a hair under 4 hours one way up north, as opposed to over 8 to get to SNT...... So, who else is in?

November is likely to be cold and rainy. I'm not sure the same time is good for a SnT north, unless you like to watch the storms that come in.
But most prefer to do it from the comfort of a room overlooking the ocean, rather than on the beach getting wet and sandy.
Plus there may be folks who'd like to do both, and by hosting it at the same time you're forcing them to choose. People are likely to choose the existing one, rather than than the new one.
September isn't too bad at the coast, though more on the cooler side.
As a final thought, September through about April many places are shut down on the coast. Hosting it during the off season will greatly reduce the tourist attraction.

Sounds good- how far north? There are some beaches that are closed during certain time of the year. Nice weather can be had Sept, Oct and Nov gets iffy. Could do a tenative and then see what the weather does?

We too are weighing the costs of S-N-T. I want to go this year but we are taking a week long L.A. trip the first week of October and we might have to miss the SNT festival. If we go were are planning on staying in one of the hotels near the beach because it's way easier with the kids. My wife also said for me to just go which may be an option and I could take someone with me. I haven't been to the dunes up north ever and wouldn't mind doing that. But in inclement weather tent camping with the family isn't too fun. Are there places to stay nearby where you are thinking of Jerod?

I was also of thinking about attending SNT this year, but would be ok with a north SNT due to the fact that it would probally be a better family trip then SNT south. I want to go to SNT, but I think I would be better off going alone without the family. I have to still look at the calender.

I was looking at the dunes between Reedsport and North bend, so I would imagine there would be plenty of Hotels available. I have not been to any dunes in OR either, so if someone has any first hand info, I'm all ears.
Maybe keeping the idea small and watching the weather would be a good idea.... If it turns bad, we can all go hang out at Kief's!

Dunes around North Bend/Coos Bay are pretty bitchin' and there are an abundance of hotel/motel options in Coos Bay and North Bend both. Also since these are tourism driven economy's the prices should be very reasonable in the off season ie November. Weather will be very windy and maybe a bit chilly, but never cold on the Oregon coast. At least not comparatively to the valley. I am so in for SNT N as long as we can do it before November 10th! After that I will probably not be able to do much for a while.

Just don't want this to drop out of our minds... I'm thinking that a one-nighter test run might be best. Feel the place out, figure out what time of year would be best for low crowds, better chance of nice weather...

That's pretty easy to do, since I lived there for several years...and not only does my pop still live out there but I still have friends that are dune crazy out there.
