Trail Run - Rowher Flats Sept 8
This was pretty much a local run for the crew. I met up with Robert (Blue Tacoma), Joey(Black Tacoma), Sean (Isuzu Trooper), and Keith (SAS 4runner) at the trailer park near Magic Mountain and proceeded towards Bouquet Canyon.
This was a loop run where we would be finishing where we started. The north side of Rowher has the well known steep climbs seen from Bouquet Canyon Road. Standing from the trail head and looking up, the hills seems so intimidating until you actually run it and youre at the top. Its only at that time you think it wasnt so bad. Its at this first steep climb that Robert has told us about a spot near the top that was difficult because of the deep ruts, off camber spot, and loose dirt. Theres evidence at that area of broken car window glass on the ground. Sean took the first try and it was a this spot that he had trouble with traction ( this was the harder line) but eventually made it. The rest of the crew followed and made it through. One other hill that was noteworthy was the one with two climbs (Left more steep, loose dirt, and rutted at the top with mini ledges. Robert charged up and over with no lockers + crawlers + low PSI (just skills and skinny pedal control!). Sean and Keith made it up. Joey (like Robert no lockers - just mad skillz) almost made it up and was a few feet of succeeding. Me - saved it for another day. There were two other challenging hill climbs on this particular route Robert led us on but didnt really compare to the ones described earlier. On the last leg of the run we had to stop and get on the side to let a Land Rover convoy through. Mostly Discos, Range Rover, LR3s and LR2s. It was interesting to note that the lone LR2 had the most difficult time going over a small minor obstacle - which held up the tail of the group. We ended seeing them again at Lookout Hill taking a snack break (afternoon tea?). Me and Robert took the easy out which ws the bypass to Rowher Tr entance. The rest of the crew took the steep way out where we started. We aired back up and took off for home. Only damage from the run: My DS door that tapped a rock when I almost keeled onto it when I went off camber and I didnt turn towards that direction. Seans Isuzu Trooper when he was trying to go over a pile of rocks - obvious ones were lower rocker damage and a bottom dent on the PS door.
