After all the work I did to stretch and SOA my rig, I was a little low in the back so I installed some Con Fer shackles I picked up from Jerry. Now I am a bit high in back but once the springs settle, I should be level.

I feel for you. I was working to 3 or 4 in the morning all week before bald mountian and didn't get everything done, but duct tape and bailing wire held the incomplete stuff. I am so burnt out with working on it right now to get it finished, I decided it was not worth killing myself so I can make the drive to Pismo. Might as welll see how my Cruiser works and the 40 can sit this one out.

No air...turns out my axle is bent. Going to get a new housing when we get back. And looks like I'll be redoing my rear springs too.

Not my Toyota, but I spent yesterday and today putting a supercharger in a 2010 Tundra. I haven't driven it yet, since I have to wait for some 91 octane after pumping all the other stuff out of the tank.

So, tomorrow it gets some fuel, the cooling system will have all the air bled out, then we'll see how much rubber I can leave on the tires. The traction control will definitely have to be left on until the customer gets it.

Let me know the difference. A dream of mine is to throw one into the FJ Cruiser. By the way, the tranny is shifting fine now. My only question is how does such an advanced transmission do two bad things? 1) with quick stops, the transmission unloads and feels like a rear end (many other FJ owners complain about this) 2) When making a quick stop and then starting quickly, like when in hurry nd you make a complete stop/ CA stop, the tranny jumps into gear (another common complaint).

Isn't this supposed to be the most advanced tranny ever?

Well, this is where my rig stands now. 100" wheel base. My front axle is so far forward, that if I didn't have a winch, I might have close to a 90* approach angle. The back looks a little lower in rear, but that is because of where I was parked. It sits level thanks to Jerry's shackles. Only other body work will be metal tech like rear fender flares and of course, maybe painting the rig desert sand or dune beige.

There is a reason they stopped making the FJ. Unfortunately, quality wasn't there strong suit. Most likely, it is a throttle by wire setup which creates a delay between your foot being put on the accelerator and the computer recognizing this.

They are still making the FJ. That is an internet Urban Legend that they are not in production anymore. THe 2010 models are already on the lots and no plans to stop production and this point.

40s mean axle upgrade and 37 won't let me fit in my garage. Only way with 37s is if I figure out a cheap harbor freight winch that could suck up both axles at the same time so I can squat into the garage. It would be to much of a pain to have to air up and down every time I wanted to go for a drive.

Man you must be pretty high. I fit mine easy in the garage with 37's and had about 3" to spare.

I am considering taking out another leaf in all of the springs. I have stock size shackles in front with stock 40 sprins with a leaf out. IN the rear, I was sagging an 1.5" so I threw on some longer shackles to level it out.

Your right, it does seem high, but that is with my hard top on. WIthout the hard top, I have plenty of room. DId you take that into consideration? See you tomorrow!

Almost all Toyota trucks and SUVs do the unload thing, they stay tilted forward, then squat down once you come to a full stop. I don't know a better way to describe it, sometimes it will give a clunk feeling as well.

Most of our vehicles also do the other thing I think you're describing. If you roll along at 5-10 MPH, or even almost stopped, then step on the accelerator, you get a little bit of a shift flare, the RPM come up slightly, then the trans engages. I know it's normal because so many of them do it on a consistent basis. I'm not sure if the ECM is programmed to do that, or if that is just not something that is part of "normal driving". In other words, you're tricking the trans into not being ready for you to accelerate.

BTW, I got some premium fuel in the Tundra today and ran it until the thermostat opened to make sure all the air was out of the cooling system. I only got to drive it around the parking lot though, since there is a problem with the belt idler pulley that was installed with the S/C. We now have to wait for a replacement pulley coming from Kentucky, hopefully this one doesn't wobble.

Checked out various dizzy configurations today.

Looked at HEI and Pertronixs, but am considering staying with points. I'm thinking that all the hype about increased performance and mileage is just BS by the manufacturers, to get me to buy their stuff. Also, it's a bit more expensive to carry spare parts.

My 40 seems to run OK when the dwell and timing are set up. Hell, I did a better job setting the dwell and timing on the side of the road, using calibrated eyeballs and hypersensitive hearing, after a couple of beers! I also got pretty good at setting the timing in the dark ... on the beach ... with BudKing holding a flashlight out the window. (he didn't want to get out ... might spill his beer!)

Jimmie, I cannot stress how much of a difference a 60 series dizzy worked for me. I needed to get a ported base from Mark's off-road, a dizzy, ignitor, and a dented side cover. My engine runs so much smoother and I have a tone of low end power.

If you plan on running that engine past 3,000 rpms on a normal basis for long term, you will keep snapping the arms off of the points.

I did my entire egnition for under 100 bucks. Just took my time and collected parts when something would come up cheap on the board.

That being said, without a gear reduction T-case, there is only so much an F engine can put out. Two options are available for more power crawl power, a t-case or a vortec v6 or sbc 350 etc.
