Trip Report: Rubithon 2008

What a great event this was. If your a true 4 wheel drive lover, you need to take in the Rubicon trail at least once in your lifetime, it's an awesome experience, great wheeling and beautiful scenery. We headed out on Wednesday for the 7:00am, Thursday run with trail leader Big Jim Adams. I was put behind a newer F-J Cruiser to keep an eye on it. We had to strap him six or seven times and he had to winch a few times, but did very well overall, really nice people with a good attitude. Mostly an uneventful trip, our group had very few problems. We went all the way to Rubicon Springs, made camp about 6 or 6:30pm. There were some good friends from the Clear Lake area who attend regularly and they held a camp site for me and my daughter at Dirty Dozen Camp Ground. Friday was a nice relaxing day around camp, hiking and swimming, etc... Saturday was a provided breakfast you could attend. Activities included, horseshoes and they had helicopter rides you could take up for a fee. Marlin took my daughter Katie with him and his son Big Mike on a ride, she took some awesome pictures and really enjoyed herself, it was her first time ever riding in a helicopter, Katie just loves Marlin and his wife Chris. Saturday night, was the bbq dinner, Chicken or Tri-tip. Ross Woody and his crew feed alot of people and really do a great job with it. There was a huge raffle after dinner, then back to our own camp for a few last stories with friends around the camp fire before turning in for the evening. We were asked by Marlin to join his group to leave Sunday morning, so we were up and ready and on the trail by 5:30am. We stopped at Inspiration Point the overlook above Cadillac Hill for a few pictures, then we joined Marlin and his crew for breakfast, which we did in South Lake Tahoe, then it was time to head home and that long hot drive. This is a great event with great people. It is my must-do trip every year. Here are a few pictures, there's a couple of the trail and more of the surrounding area.

OH man, I was looking at one of the FJ Cruisers the other day at the dealership. I was also looking at the price tag. That hurt to look at.
