Sledding kicks ass
Thought I'd post up a little about what I've been busy with this weekend. Samara, Coleen, Ray, Travis, Ronda, TJ and I went out to play in the snow. We had a blast. Dokie Ridge (May pic in this year's calendar is visible far in the distance). There was snow so deep that at one point I fell off and couldn't touch the ground. I love winter.

Well,
finally got to go sledding on Saturday, not enough snow around town, so been using the quad all winter, so finally got to go use a sled for work, and They are a blast! I will definately be getting one next year. Here are a couple of pics.
Cheers,
Deny
Not as wicked mountain shots like you guys had Charla, but we were working in a flat farmers field and it was still pretty fun.

Sort of cold, but not bad when you bundle up. It was definately a lot colder a few weeks ago, now it's hovering around 0 degrees.
Cheers,
Deny

Looks like fun Charla. I can see that you are in avalanche terrain. Where you carrying a beacon, probe and shovel and did you practice with the beacon before you hit the trail. Sledders are quickly catching up to backcountry skiiers and boarders as the most popular group to get caught and killed in avalanches. I'm concerned because I see the tragic results of uneducated people using the backcountry all winter long.

I understand and appreciate the concerns of avalanches. There were 7 of us there that weekend and a couple are trained in avalanche safety. The area was also cleared of avalanche concerns....

Nice pics charla, that looks like a lot of fun. I have absolutley no avalanche education, and when looking at those pic's it looks pretty safe to me ? Can someone with some knowledge point out some hazards in Charla's pics?

Hi Deny,
In post #5 and #7 they have done some high-marking. That is the usual place for a sledder to trigger an avalanche. It also looks as though they came over the saddle above the high-mark slope and cut over a convex roll, which is also another commn trigger point. In other pics there are mtns. in the background. On a sled they are only a few minutes ride away. Although I can't see the entire valley they are in, a valley by definition is bordered on both sides by mountains. Depending on the width of the valley you may always be in a runout zone. The starting slope angle for avalanches to occur is about 30deg and it looks likes there are a lot of 30deg plus slopes in those pics.
Are you still using BD and do you make your own. I am thinking of getting/making a processor and making my own. How much does the stuff you make or use cost.
Kevin

Ahh, thanks for the info, makes a little sense now. And Deny should be pleased that he's been mistaken for such a good looking 'fella as me . We do seem to have the same interests in avatars, although Deny's seems to be leaking something, probably Bio-diesel. I'm more of a gas/propane guy myself.

No worries Kevin,
No I am not making biodiesel right now (haven't even driven my cruiser since October), because I am living up in a Fort St. John trailer park with no room, and due to work, no time to do it. Depending on how much time I have I might start making some in the summer. However my dad and brother, are still making biodiesel down in Whonnock, and it roughly costs (damn, it's been a year, since I last made a batch, and I can't remember the exact price) around 25cents a letre to make. My brother can chime in to correct me if I am wrong. But you definately need some space to make the stuff, and you will get oil everywhere in that area. It is quite time consuming, but it is very rewarding to make.
Good luck, and feel free to ask me or my brother (jfc on this forum) any questions.
Cheers,
Deny

Hey Louis,
When the snow hits, do you switch the positions of the Carry and the Sled?
