Who can build me a roof rack?

I am curious if anyone can suggest someone who can build me a good quality roof rack for a reasonable price (aka less than an ARB). Seems the ARB will be close to $1500 once I buy the fit kit and such. I'd also be interested in looking at something aluminum if strength isn't affected too much.

Thanks guys

Roof rack options

We-Cruz and Marlin 375 have done fabrication in the past in your neck of the woods. WeCruz built the roof rack that I have (it's on permanent loan to me). I've since put two additional Thule bars underneath it for better weight distribution. Thule bars and mounts are cheap on E-bay. This may or may not work for what you need.

Fantom (Mat) (member of Coastal Cruisers) and Cruisin' (Jason) have done fabrication projects for cruisers as well down here in the lower mainland.

Just some local Cruiser head options for ya. I'm sure there are others as well.

Here is the original .

http://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-te...ack-build.html

I modified it for my RTT.

I think you could prolly talk me into helping you out. For the gutter mounts see "themule" (he is a vendor on mud).
I built mine out of stainless but it was a pain and I dont think Knox Mountain metal has any left.
Knox mountain metal is the place to find your build starting point, cruise around until you find somthing that resembles a rack and modify it Steel is easy, you just have to powdercoat it after.
We should have a pre-construction meeting...actually we need to have another club meeting anyhow, we could talk then and you could see mine up close. Are you in a rush or is it one of those things on your wish-list?

I'm in no big hurry. The main reason I want one is to mount an RTT and I probably won't be needing that until the Spring. I'm planning ahead!

When's the next meeting???

Pathfinder,

There is a thread in the 80 section from a guy in the UK that just built a rack for his RTT.
Nice low design and clean with square tube stock and miter cut corners (easier than radius bends and round stock) although the nice thing about fabbing it your self is you can make it exactly the way you want so you could have miters under the tent and radius corners on the other end.

What kind of a tent are you looking for?

I have a shorter JDM basket that I can sell you for $60 (no roof bars). Personally, I think it is too short for a 61 but okay for a 40. I recently picked up a full length basket. I'll be coming through Kelowna Saturday evening. Here's a pic of it on the truck here: http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/h...camping297.jpg

Hey Marlin,

I'll check out the rack link.

I haven't settled on who I want to buy from or what style but I've been looking locally at www.rooftents.ca $900 by order. Maybe I could get a better rate with a group buy...

Tempting for sure but I agree that a bigger one is probably the way to go, especially when I'm thinking of carrying a tent up there. Thanks though!
