Another Run??? Fishing and Wheeling?
We'll I've definetly got the itch to go for another run. I was thinking that it would neat to find a cool fishing lake that has a more challenging entry route to create some fun. I've heard that "Crater lake" has a fairly difficult climb to the lake. I would like to bring the aluminum rooftop and get in a few hours of fishing, lunch and some exploration afterwards. Anyone in?

Ian, I'm definitely not done camping yet this year. I'd be interested for sure. Just need to see how the weekends in Sept look with kids soccer, school, yada yada yada before I can commit to any weekend.
There are a handful of Crater lakes in BC. Got a Lat/Long reference?

Other wise known as Red Bridge lake....is that the one? I used fishwizard.com , there is quite a few Crater lakes.
Sounds like fun to me.
Although this weekend my neighbour (a jeep guy, but I don't hold it against him ) and I are heading out on our anual Sept long weekend campout up to Thalia lake for some fishing, camping and wheeling. There are lots of lakes around it and lots of camp spots. It is above guliford lake on Hwy 5. I have never been there but I got a hot tip the chronomid fishing is awsome right now.
Drop by on your way to the Ashnola...or stay for the weekend.

Yeah I've got the same result when I searched - My original assumption was that it was located between Hedley and Keremeos. I need to check with my "source" to find out if this is correct. I was just throwing this out as an idea and am really quite open to suggestions.
If you have some suggestions post them up...
Would definelty be into a overnight campout if interest is there.

Crater Lake Update.
Seems Crater Lake is a "hike in" lake. I was hoping for a lake I could drop the in rooftop and do some "trolling".
So any ideas? Post em up!

This time of year you are going to want the higher elevation lakes. Rampart Lake (aka Hans Lake) near Pinceton use to be a good for fishing. I helped build the damn to raise the level of the lake many years ago. I haven't been there in a long time. Simon told me that the old road in has beeen de-activated and that the access is off of the Summerland Road.
Up above Allison Lake on the East side you've got a few nice lakes to fish. Stringer Lake (along the gas line) is pretty productive lake but usually with only small fish. It is immediately above Allison and there is a road going up from the South end of the lake. I'd ask at the Princeton sports shop on the condition of the road. Last time I was on it the off camber from the washouts was pretty hairy.
Just North of Allision Lake at the Ketchum Creek bridge is a another road which goes up to the East to the old Ketchum homestead. It crosses over the gas line and meets up with the Power Line road.
Easier access can be had from just before Summit Lakes on the highway. A graded logging road climbs up onto the plateau (pass ing a couple more lakes) and meets up with the Power Line road.
If you head South on the Power Line Road, before it starts to go down sharply, you will see another small road going to the East through a stand of Jack Pine. I've always called this Lost Lake. It's a small lake but it has a lot of shrimp. A light sparkly green shrimp pattern works well on a sinking line. In the evening if they are feeding on sedges on top, a Tom Thumb on a floater is a real killer. Note: this lake is bordered by a large white clay flat. If it is wet out, you are advised to drag your boat to the shore.
Continuing on South down the Power Line road you will come to a foot trail going to the East into Butler Lake. To fish this lake you need to be on it - so you will need a tube, pontoon boat or ubber raft. A leech pattern or a long tied half back are good flies for this lake.
Further South along the Power Line road you will come to Power Lakes to the West side of the road.. These small shalllow lakes have been stocked on and off over the years. They tend to winter kill.
From Power Lakes the road climbs a short rock face and then meets up with the Gas Line Road. You can turn to the North and go to Stringer or head South back to Princeton coming down off of Elephant mountain. Of course if you were to follow the Power Line road to the North, you would run into all kinds of Lakes.
Pike Mountain to the West of Allison Lake has many good fishing lakes. Thalia was already mentioned here. There is Clifford, Ricky, etc. Be warned that the Hells Angels have a Club House on the old McDermid homestead just off of the Pike Mountian FSR. They have taken over the small McDermid lake as their private jetski lake. I use to love it up there. Now I just avoid the area.

Well Thalia lake was lots of fun. I caught the biggest mountain lake rainbow ever...20.5 inches the big guy had 6 inches of tail hangin out of my net and he faught like a 10lb steelhead.
I talked to a guy fishing at Ricky lake and his arms were tired from catching 14 inchers "you couldn't get your hand around"
Back on topic...
Lets go for a trail run/meeting this Sunday. Hidden lake for a bit of fishin then up to the top of Pennask Mountain behind the lake.

Sunday Run
Hope it's OK if a Coastal Cruiser crashes your meeting/run! Pick a place and time to meet. I'd be keen on joining you if I can swing it by the . Haven't gotten any fall fishing in yet (or wheeling for that matter!)

How about the Sunset Main intersection on the Connector at 10 am.
From there it is just a few k to Hidden lake.
Anybody know where Gold boy is? He has not been around for awhile.

When i saw him the end of August, he said he was going away for a while. He does have a new toy to use, so I expect that's what he's up to.
I would have loved to join in your run. Saturday I am in Vernon doing a workshop. However, I already made commitments for Sunday in Princeton. Maybe next time.

Would've liked to come by as well but I'm workin a night shift Saturday...won't be up until noon-ish Sunday
I get the odd weekends off, just depends on my shift rotation but would definitely be up for something mid-week as well if anyone is free. I'm not much of a fisherman but do have a rod and tackle kicking around somewhere...

Get yourself a fly rod and catch a few nice fish on that and you will be hooked! Was down at the Vedder a couple weeks ago for Pinks. It was a rainy nasty day. Missed a few strikes (soft mouthing the fly). But there is something magical about casting a fly into a river that makes up for everything else.

I'm in! I'll see you at the Sunset exit on the Coq. at 10. If I'm late, don't wait too long, I have a backroads map book which should get me to Hidden Lake. I will likely have my son or daughter with me too.
My cell is six o four 3 o nine five 2 three three (if it works up there). I'll be monitoring CB Channel 4 as well.
Dieseler, if you plan to make a weekend of it, Brenda lake is right off that exit as well and according to the map book, right near Hidden Lake.
I'm coming from Abbotsford planning to be on the highway by 6am. Top speed 90km in my 42!

They have changed some of the logging roads in the last few years in the area, the access to Hidden lk is off the powerline and it is the head waters for Pennask creek (a new watershed park) it shows the park and the trail to the lake on my GPS.
If you don't get lost your not really having any fun anyways.
AJAE, your kid(s) will get to tell their friends about the "Mad Trapper" from hidden lake, he is a squirly old dude that lives in the cabin by the boat ramp. He likes to stare and generally gives most people the creeps...but he has been up there for a few years, so he is pretty harmless.

That was great!!! What a cool little trek to hidden lake and then up to the top of Penask Mountain. - What a view !!! (My camera just couldn't quite capture?)
I just have to figure out how Geordie put's that special "mojo" on his bait and which Monk "blessed" his Fishin Rod - The fish always choose his side of the boat .
Another Pic from Penask Mountain...

We can make this run again before it snows. Once there is a foot of snow on top of Pennask it is a blast just going up from the Headwaters side.I used to go to the top in my 40 with up to 2 feet of snow and 10lbs of air in the tires. Usually the snow starts to stick around the end of Oct and pretty well closes the more challenging trail from Hidden lake, then again some snow would sure make it interesting.
What do you think Ian, could we make it up there with snow on the ground?
