Island Chapter

All are Coastal oriented. There is power in numbers (we all use this forum). We all help with Cruizer Daze. We all go on runs together. We have meetings on different weeks, so someone who wants to make a trip to meet and greet can. We each have our own board, but work together though our common name.
Greg your timing is excelent... I just got talked into forming a club over here by a guy in Duncan and Abel (Too Tall). I posted on Island4x4.com and Steve Shulhan (who I actually met last month) responded and sent me in this direction. I figured I might as well start a new thread rather than Hi-jack an old one. I really don't know whats involved in starting a club, but I have over been here for 3 or 4 years and I still know very few cruiser people around here.

For those of you who don't know me my name is Mark and I was a member of the Coastal Cruisers for 3 or 4 years befor moving over to Ladysmith. I have not been in the club for about 4 years now and there seems to be quite a few new faces. I went by Diff Boy in Steve's yard (befor Dan) or Bogger Boy for my baby boggers that I had, that should refresh a few minds.

I think a strong association with the Coastal Cruisers would be a very good thing for a cruiser club over here and I will need some assistance in finding out how to form an official club.

The one problem with the island is that there could be 3 different clubs here if you seperate into regions, so a weeknight club meeting might not work for everyone. I think I will just have to wait and see who is interested and their locations on the island. I have only had a couple responses so far.

Please spread the word. My email is cruisermark@shaw.ca I work away alot so I can be hard to get in touch with, just give me a little time though and I'll eventually respond.

Hi Mark:

I don't think we've met since I joined the Club after you moved to the Island, from the sounds of it. The TLCA website has its guidelines on how to become a TLCA Chapter written out. It's probably worthwhile to read its bylaws, and that should give you some guidelines that you might consider, since the Coastal Cruisers is a TLCA chapter...and I would figure that any sister chapter of the Club would also have to be a TLCA chapter.

http://www.tlca.org/boardbylaws.html
From the TLCA bylaws:
Quote:
ARTICLE IV - CHAPTERS

A. A minimum of six individual TLCA members, in good standing, who are owner operators may submit an application to become a Chapter.

B. The applying Chapter must submit a formal letter of application to the TLCA BOD and Bylaws for BOD approval prior to being voted upon for chapter membership.

C. Bylaws must include clauses that establish the following:

1. A goal or objective of the Chapter is to "Support the TLCA."

2. All Chapter members eligible to join TLCA must join and remain current members in TLCA.

3. Chapter rosters may not exceed 30 percent non-TLCA members and non-TLCA members may not be used in constituting a quorum.

D. To be a "Chapter in Good Standing" the Chapter must comply with the following:

1. Retain all Bylaws clauses from Section C above.

2. Maintain four (4) current members who are TLCA members.

3. Submit a current Delegate form.

4. Be current on all financial obligations to the TLCA.

5. Submit a roster of members yearly or as called for by the BOD.

E. Privileges of Chapters in Good Standing:

1. Entitled to advertising privileges and discounts in the Toyota Trails.

2. Invited to all BOD meetings.

3. Invited to participate in all TLCA hosted and sanctioned events (participant and vehicle restrictions may be set by the event hosts).

4. Entitled to one voting Delegate at all TLCA BOD meetings.

5. Entitled to access and coverage by TLCA insurance.

6. Access to the sanctioning of events by TLCA.

F. Responsibilities of Chapters in good standing:

1. Each Chapter is responsible for registering their Delegate or Alternate Delegate including any changes, with the TLCA Secretary, using the appropriate Delegate Forms.

2. Each Delegate or Alternate Delegate shall be a member of the Chapter they are representing.

3. A Delegate or Alternate Delegate shall only represent one Chapter.

4. Each Chapter shall submit a roster of members yearly or as called for by the BOD. This roster shall be submitted to both the TLCA Secretary and Membership Services.
The TLCA BOD and officers are also regularly in MUD, and they can easily be reached in the TLCA forums.

Good luck!

OK thanks guys, I figured that would be straight forward (and it looks it) but I know nothing about registering a non-profit club and all that stuff. I don't yet know what sort of response I'll get so I'm kinda waiting on that before going any further. Thanks for the input and WHEN ARE YA COMIN' TA WHEEL?

I don't think you necessarily have to have a non-profit status unless you want to do things like issue tax receipts.

I thought that would jog some memories.... Now I got some 36 tsl's and stuff. The cruiser has progressed nicely since I got a house with a garage.

Mark, thanks for taking this on.

Instead of a seperate TLCA Chapter, I think we'd be better off as part of the Coastal Cruisers Chapter and organize meetings, events and rides on the Island open to all CC members but with the expectation that typically Mainlanders won't be able to attend - similar to the meetings and rides on the Mainland that we're welcome at but typically can't attend.

Joining CC gives us access to the existing club discounts and would give us a larger membship number to use when trying to negotiate discounts from Island suppliers.

It takes a lot to organize a club from scratch; bank accounts, bylaws, TLCA paperwork, bulletin board, web site, meeting space, minutes, financial records, and more. CC have already organized all of these; I think there's room for Island members within CC.

The only downside about Islanders joining CC is that all of our membership dues go overseas, most club decisions will be made there, and we'll miss out on many of the Mainland meetings and rides. To counter that, I'd hope that if a reasonable number of CC Island members were to organize Club meetings, rides, and events on the Island that CC would return some level of financial support similar to that provided for similar Club activities on the Mainland.

Let's see what type of a response we get...

Thanks again for getting this rolling.

-Steve

Well, this is prolly a good way to start if the CC members agree. Where the hells your club president, Yuppy, oh no Guppy, ya Mud Guppy, wheres he lurking? How do the current CC members feel on this?

We still need to find out how many people are interested. I do agree about the money going overseas, but if we want to organize events over here then we should be entitled to it as well.

I say go for it if you want, I got no problem with an Island Chapter. I think you could probably handle most of your own finances, just part of the money could go to the Mainland for using the logo and stickers and Junk, I'm sure it will be beat to death at the next meeting though,
Cheers,
Deny

Yes it was beat to death and the concences was everyone is fine with it, as long as it is done by TLCA ruels and Greg proposed Mud would be a good place to get interest up and get organized. I wouldn't mind a valley chapter as it took over two hours to drive to richmond last meeting

But having said that, I would go to whichever meeting works out with my schedule

I left Gunner in command

I lurk a bit, but usually I'm too busy working to browse and repond
The money thing should be easy enough to deal with
basically cover costs of items like cards, stickers and shirts
Vote on any changes, help with events/runs when possible, and be part of the club basically
I don't forsee any problems if everyone puts a bit of effort in to it!

Mark,
River Shiver was a blast again!
give me a shout on my toll free line when/if you get a chance
