HDJ81/FJ80 steel wheels group buy anyone interested?
I'm fed up with swapping wheels from my BFGs to my snow tires every fall and I'm buying some steelies for my HDJ81. For some reason nobody in British Columbia seems to sell a size that will fit in a steel wheel (if you know anyone who does, let me know!) and Summit Racing has good prices: U.S. Wheel 84-7860L - U.S. Wheel 84 Series Black Daytona Wheels - Overview - SummitRacing.com ($76 USD per wheel for a black powdercoated one). That's for a US Wheel 16'' 6x5.5'' 8'' wide wheel with 4.25'' backspacing that should be ideal for an HDJ/FJ80. They have to come on a Pallet, obviously shipping and brokerage will be cheaper per wheel if I get a few sets. They also have a similar cragar wheel for $60 but only in a 7'' wide with 4'' backspacing ( Cragar 3977760 - Cragar Soft 8 Wheels - Overview - SummitRacing.com which might be a bit narrow for wider tires but would be fine for skinny snows. Anyone interested in going in with me? Once I know how many to get i can calc shipping but it won't be too much extra.
oh yeah, and you can get them in white as well.

I thought Brownbear said last year that they could be had at the Toyota dealerships for around $70-80 each. Did you check a couple dealerships?
Personally, I run alloys in the winter and steelies in the summer. Steelies stand up better to summer trail rash. Alloys are simple to clean and don't rust. Steve's got (or maybe had) some nice alloys for not too much more $.

Did you check with Sheldon to see if he has any used wheels? There is also someone parting out a VX on Craigslist who might have wheels.

Factory Toyota steel rims with the right backspacing around $200 each. Steve or G&S doesn't have anything either. So it's either summit or try to find something used (not easy!). They also have some nice alloys around $105 each American Racing 1726883 - American Racing Baja Wheels - Overview - SummitRacing.com. can't make up my mind between the steelies and alloys. Anyone else interested in going in before I put the order in??

91 80s are 15X7s. old 4runner style alloys. jonathan...have you considered taco/tundra steelies? they're 16X7" but a bit more backspacing...might be worth trying out on your 80, but many have used taco/runner/tundra steelies and alloys on their 80s with no issues. often come up on CL...or try dealers with a CC discount.

Found a good set of 16'' Tundra alloys like new, local, for $125 each. They look like they should fit fine, although with the backspacing it looks like I'll be living with a narrower track than what i currently have. I like the look of the American Racing wheels a lot better but at around $200 for shipping probly not worth it the extra $50/wheel.

gosh, I'd have to go digging thru here on mud. But I've posted this a bunch. Toyota Steel silver wheels 16 inch at toyota for 80 bucks is real and easy to get. I've bought at least 17 rims in the last few years from my local dealer in Smithers. Even your old 80 is running them.....
Give me a moment I will get the part number. and a pic.....

They are good with 235 or 255 metric width tires. Which are about 9.5 to 10.5 inches wide. Nothing wider would be happy.
glad to help. Did you see the pic on your old truck?
Cheers,
BB

s'ok, I'm putting skinny-ish nokian hakkas on them. The old guzzler looks great! Hope she's still running good....
