Old road to Jones

Thought I'd post this up in case someone else was wondering about the old logging roads leading from the Fraser to Jones Lake, they still show in the backroads map.

Last summer I was looking down off Cheam at roads leading past some small lakes along the ridge to the north. I found where the road hits the valley bottom on the west side and walked a portion of it early in the spring. Seemed doable with a bit of work to get up from the highway. At the time the road to Jones Lake was gated so it seemed like an interesting trail. Took the dog for another recce hike today. A sign on a tree hinted at what was ahead. The old road has been deactivated with sections resloped to original. So another potential trail is now gone .

so now they are not only putting in cross ditches, tank traps but also causing washouts and slides to close trails down. Makes me wonder what was so interesting over there that they would go to all that trouble. New Wallmart site?

Deactivating a road to it's original side slope is about a 'permanent' a deactivation as you can get. Theortically, this should prevent washouts and slides by restoring natural water runoff rather than have it concentrate down ditches and through the tank traps/cross ditches and/or waterbars.

So, is the road into Jones lake completely closed then? I thought BC Hydro had a rec site out there.

The main road to Jones Lake was quickly fixed after the slide and has been open since then.

True.
This was a logging road that started a few km's past bridal falls and went up to the ridge where it apparently met up with roads from the other side by jones lake.
Honestly I would have thought they'd keep this road in place to give future access options for the water pipeline from jones to the hydogeneration facility beside hwy1.
Mostly I'm disappointed because I like loop trails and this one had been long forgotten so it had potential.
