Aussie lockers

Well I've made the decision to throw in a set of lunch box Aussie lockers in the 70. Does anyone know of a reliable local supplier?

Thanks

No, but if you go the Aussie shipping route, I wouldn't mind joining in.

Cool, We'll see if there is a local supplier and if not we can put in a joint order. I'm going with both front and rear lockers. That last trip up sunrise was a grind with open diffs. It gets worse every year.

Is that the manufacturer in Australia?

Aussie Lockers: Lockers, aussie lockers, torq-masters technology, automatic positive locking differentials, automatic precision locker differentials, off road, off-road

Based out of New York.... not sure on where they are manufactured.... if they are offered in Oz, I suspect it's under a different name (lokka?)

I snatched one up from the classifieds section here, they come up once in a while, but they go quick.

You might also consider a Lokka or a Lockrite locker. Both are made for 70 series LCs. I've heard good things about the Lokka locker on the Patrol forum.

The LOKKA looks exactly the same as the Aussie locker. The lockrite looks good but twice the price of the Aussie ....... ouch.

Good to research the competition thought, thanks.

My 2 cents on the aussie locker. Had it in the rear of my 42 for 3 years, and no problems. easy install, and cheap.

Cheers,
Deny

Good to know. I thought you had to order direct, but I got mine secondhand anyway.

I would recommend only a selectable locker up front. There are situations where a front locker can get you in serious trouble unless you know its disengaged.

I've heard that. I may even go with a limited slip up front.

If there's any benefit to a group buy, I'd be in for one.
I contacted them about a year ago and didn't place the order when they were out of stock with an unknown wait time. The dollar is good for buying parts down south again.

Just ordered mine a few hours ago. You have to order via phone as their website won't support Canadian addresses. They were great to deal with and were willing to ship via USPS so I didn't get robbed buy UPS again. Sorry, thought Kim was the only other person interested. I can't remember off hand what shipping was but it wasn't too bad.

Thanks for the info, good to know. I was considering getting it shipped to the border and picking it up, but if reg mail will take it without the border handling fees then that would be easiest.

Got the rear one in! It took about three hours and was an easy job. I'm going to start the front and will want to get it out next weekend for a test. I'm thinking the hard route in to Davis lake should be a fair test. I did it with open diffs but the mud holes were a nightmare. I'm hoping the locker will make it a easier.

Well! They are installed. The front axle took a while as I replaced the inner axle seals, repacked the birfs and spent a while scraping and re-sealing. I also pulled the sway bay off as the springs are heavy enough I don't think its doing much other than limiting articulation of the front axle. I took the truck for a test run and what a difference off road! It climbs like a raped ape. I can't hear the clicking unless the window is down and I really listen for it. Its is a little herky jerky if you pin it on a corner but other than that I don't notice any handling anomalies. I took it up a steep climb and intentionally got cross axled in some deep ruts but it still made it with one or even two wheels off the ground. So far, for $500 and change its worth the money and a relatively cheep upgrade. Tomorrow will be the big test and I'll post the a review.

That's good news. I might have to keep an eye out at pick-a-part for an LSD out of a Pathy. It's suppose to be an easy swap into my front dif. My only fear is with all my highway travel in the winter that the LSD might cause steering problems in corners on winter roads. I'll have to wait for your review on that one before I make my final decision. I know my rear lSD locks up pretty quick in tight corners on wet or snow roads.
