Labour day long weekend run '08

At the August CC meeting we chose Swartz Lake as the base camp for the August 30-Sept 1 trail run. - You can decide whether you come in from the south via the Hurley, Bralorne, Goldbridge route, or in from the north-east via the Lillooet-Yalakom FSR to get there. Since we hope to visit Poison Mountain, it probably makes more sense to come in from the Goldbridge end. There might be a mountain bike festival of some sort there so we should have a plan B just in case. We will post maps here on Mud.

So, who is in for this?

Not likely. I 'm working in Ottawa next week and don't get back until late Friday night on the long weekend.

While you're there, ask Harper wtf diesel is more expensive than gasoline, and give him a kick in the nutz for this bullshit excuse that fuel prices are still high (even though crude has dropped significantly) because of some PetroCanada plant shut down in ALberta.

You're dream'in if you think you'll find a politician on the Hill in the summer especially just before a long weekend.

BTW, filled up yesterday in Orriville for $4.68 / gal. Border crossing at Nighthawk was a breeze both ways - no line-ups and polite border guards. The US guy was interested in the RHD rig. Glad I pumped more F12 into the AC cause man was it hot in the interior this weekend. Forest fires are all over the Cascades and have filled up the Similkameen valley with smoke. It's keeping the Heli bucket and Water Bomber companies happy. Hwy 3 was closed down on Friday so we took the long way aound the Coq. It was pretty much a parking lot of overheated vehicles. I sam happy with 60 kms/hr on the steep grades. One guy went by me in a Dodge 1T van with a loaded 20" trailer steaming before the snow shed. By the time I hit the summit, he was pulled over at the pull-out trying to fill his rad with 500 ml water bottles. LOL I took pitty on him and sold him a jug of coolant. He didn't take my advise on bleeding out the air. I bet he didn't make the top of the connector.

Hijack out.

Polish group is coming on Saturday to Schwartz Lake from Lillooet (no traffic there). We will camp Friday night by Yalakom FSR to meet Robert C. on Saturday morning.

I am coming. The winter rainy season will soon be here providing lots of time for the never-ending house/family/wifey projects. Landcruisers are more than daily drivers and mall cruisers, so to all the Webwheelers I never see on these summer runs -- let's use them for what they are built for and get'em out there. Boorah*

*Boorah (a US Marine term used in the movie Jarhead to confirm enthusiasm for the job).

Going up the via Whistler and Pemberton route:
Head north up the Hurley River road, proceed north to Gold Bridge, which is at the west end of Carpenter Lake. About 1/5 of the way along the lake, we turn north, towards Tyaughton Lake and Relay Creek. Just before the half way point along Relay Crk, we turn north east along the Mud Creek road. This is a narrower, old logging road which eventually takes us to the Mud Lakes. There might be too much water on the road to get past the Mud Lakes area. Continuing along the road, you eventually reach Swartz Lake.
Does anyone there have a good map from Carpenter Lake to Swartz Lake?

I might have to work, and as usual, won't know until the last minute. Hence my definite maybe.
And Becky just informed me she is working as well, so there is no way in hell I'm taking both kids by myself

This working for a living thing sucks don't it? I wish we could all be free and independently wealthy like Scalp.

Working is ridiculously inconvenient and takes up way too much time and energy.
If you MUST work, then Jeff's job must be pretty good 'cause he has tons (metric) of time for the computer threads and porno, I guess.

Anyway, search Mud for ederwin and his journey from Big Bar to Swartz Lake. There are lots of pics and descriptions.

I had planned to go and may still. A number of things have come up like tenants giving 9 days notice to move out of a place and we have to rent it......

So, definite maybe. Sucks!
