good point...like the saying goes "value exists in the mind..." . . .

+1 on posting that cross canada...kijiji,craiglist, there have been lots of guys out east that have bought from the wet coast and drove their rides home...

(but... it doesn't help either when you keep seeing 80's selling for 12/13G's...)

and you will probably see more and more sell much cheaper now , the landed cost of these things is around 10 grand and i bet lots of the importers will panick and have "fire" sales .

Well I did post that I'd entertain offers, the problem is everyone wants that "deal of the century" Look at the issues most of the guys are having with the $12,000 80 series, by the time they are up to spec they have $18,000 into them. I'll bet if I asked $10,000 people would offer me $8,000, if I asked $8,000 they'd say it's worth $6,000. I take your points, but look around and see what kind of BJ74 you'll get for the price, I think I'm close if not on the low side of "market value"
Anyways we're not debating the value of the truck, I've not had any looks of offers, so it's not the price, but the market sadly. Thanx for your opinions.

I agree flex, I would take a nice clean bj74 for 12,000, I think it is a bit on the low side, I think a cable locked 74 is very tough to get, 80's are a dime a dozen. personally a cable locked, pto 74 means more to me than any 80, so it definatly depends on buyer really. I am sure you will find a buyer, takes time to find the right person and not some cruiser wannabe who just wants to buy a cruiser for the shopping mall trips for a nice cheap price. (not pissing on 80's I think they are cool too when built up, but just some of the buyers out there that think an 80 is the same as a 74)
Cheers,
Deny

I think I may have sounded unduly harsh - I was talking about "worth" in a philosophical sense, not specifically relating to this particular truck, which looks to be a very nice one. But, as has been said, it's going to be hard here in the GVRD to get 20K for an older vehicle, RHD, in a more or less saturated market. I think listing it up North is a great idea and certainly worth a shot. The truck may indeed have more value in an area like that than in the GVRD where the market has been flooded and prices seem to be dropping. Not to mention that diesel, as I write this, is near 1.42 a litre!

I think that really is the kicker right now. Back when I was going to university my BJ42 with 35in tires cost the same as a little honda civic to drive to school (with hombrew bio, the honda didn't even come close), so I had the best of both worlds (cheap comuter and weekend warrior) Those days look to be over and I guess a lot of people don't want to drive anywhere because of the prices of fuel so they probably aren't even interested in getting any fun vehicle unless it's peddle powered.
Cheers,
Deny

...and a supercharger . I know Craig didn't use the overdrive the times I wheeled with him. The tires were too big to push even on the freeway. The truck is freekin awesome off road though. Hopefully you don't have to drop your price on your 74 as much as Craig dropped his price on the 80 . Just over 6 months ago he had it listed for $22,000.00.
