Anyone vouch for ateb

I'm just wondering if everyone has had decent experiences with these guys. How are they at getting parts for JDMs (specifically electrical) and what are there shop rates. I have been using my long time mechanic buddy for a while but I think my truck needs some TLC (pun intended of course).

Never dealt with them, but I have heard nothing but excellent service from them.

They have great prices on parts, and usually have commonly needed bits (rotors, center links etc) in stock. They also often have a wrecked parts truck out back that you can find stuff on. Their shop rates are dealer - range but they do a great job.

When I had my HDJ81, Ateb did extensive work on it including some custom fabrication (front brackets for US sway bars). Everything they did was excellent and they are extremely familiar with JDM vehicles. I have nothing but good things to say about Ateb. I never had any complaints with any of the work they did, and they fixed everything I asked them to look after, first time.

I bought eSpec headlamps from them - happy customer.

I took my cruiser in last summer and am not a happy customer. To be fair, I didn't give them a chance to "make it right" because of the time/$ to go back; it's a long story, complicated by me being a picky customer and living on the Island and unable to pop-in to see for myself how things are going and being able to catch things while they're still small issues. PM me a phone number if you want to talk about the details.

Be very specific with what you want done, and make sure you understand what they're going to do. If I was able to pop-in frequently, and talked with Ken instead of the guy that answers the phone and writes up the orders I might go back.

Top to bottom front to back service done there and they are great all around. Highly recommend them because they really are JDM specialists.

ATEB left an old oil filter gasket on the block during and oil change causing my engine to blow out ALL of it's oil. They were good to deal with IMOP, but it took a while for the engine rebuild due to wrong bearings etc. When it was all said and done, I was without my truck for 6weeks (they gave me their shop car as a loaner) and cost me an additional $1500 for the engine rebuild kit. They paid for all of the labour and machining and "new" crank. I've now spent almost $9000 on my truck aside from the $1500 for the rebuild, it was a bit of a kick in the pants. I was disappointed that they screwed up on a high school shop mistake. I have mixed feelings about ATEB, they do good work but I was put out by their mistake.

so why did you have to pay $1500 in parts?

Yeah- there's no way in hell you should have had to pay for anything.

I tried to book my truck in for a mysterious problem that I was having a difficult time diagnosing. When they found out I did my own work I got the brush off with them saying it was going to be a month and a half before they could even book it in for a 15min lookover. I figured it out myself and fixed the problem. That left a bad taste in my mouth.

I'd be going Ciaran Wilson with my truck if I needed a courteous professional.

Regrettabley, shops have the power when they have possesion of your vehicle. I wonder what the full story is. Kind of sad to hear this about ATEB. I have only dealt with them once before and it was just for some filters. They are the only shop that I know of who are qualified and with a fair amount of experience working on Safaris.

Maybe some of the other Cruiser shops are planning to branch out to other JDM 4x4s....

According to ATEB the reason they wanted me to pay for the $1500 rebuild kit is because my truck had 300, 000kms on my truck and I was going to get a like new engine so they felt that I should put up some money. The way I look at it is my truck was running perfectly fine before they messed up.

That's crap.

Reminds me of the Seinfeld where George neglects to feed his GF's cat and it dies. He then argues that he shouldn't have to pay for a "brand new cat" because her's was pretty old anyway...that's Costanza logic.

I have been dealing with ATEB for about a year. They knew EVERYTHING required for my BJ42 and my HJ61. In my expericence they do great work at a reasonable price. ATEB has gone above and beyond my expectations on several occasions.

My limited experience with ATEB has been good so far......walked into the shop for the very first time last Monday........Spoke with Danny and briefly with John..........they removed my front bumper and wiper system......they've ordered a wiper transmission that should be here on Monday or Tuesday. I'm not sure what the final cost is going to be..........so far price wise they aren't as cheap as my regular guy in Abbotsford,.........but they are specialized, and I love my Landcruiser so I guess it comes with the territory.

I've dealt with Ciaran also......he's awesome.

Follow Up: It took alot longer than a week for my wiper transmission to arrive, the part was stuck on a boat and took some time to get here, Got a call yesterday that the part had arrived. I went to ATEB, hung out for an hour and had them fix my wiper transmission and replace all of my wipers. Ken was very pleasent to talk to.....there is no doubt that the staff at ATEB is very passionate about landcruisers.

Would I go back again? Sure...why not......Despite being a little irrate at having to drive around in this weather without wipers, once the part arrived I was in and out within an hour.

That folks is my experience with ATEB.......I hope that helps.

I had ATEB put on a OME suspension a couple months ago (according to them the recommended setup was mediums in the rear and heavy up front). I noticed a sag in the leafs and looked at the part numbers and it turns out that they installed mediums in the front and lights in the rear. With my new bumper and winch my truck will be bottoming out in no time. Calling ATEB tomorrow... I'll let you know how the conversation goes... not pleased

Lava, just curious what you paid for your new wiper transmission setup. What was the problem with the old one? My wipers do not go on intermittent any more and they don't return to the bottom when turned off.

That's the same problem my '84 chev 1/2 ton pickup has. I don't want to bother fixing it. If it was a Cruiser, it'd be worth looking into.
