BJ60 Project –For Sale- Guaging local interest

After much satisfying resto work on my FJ55, I’ve decided to change focus for my next project that is geared more towards a resto-mod than an expedition rig. To do this I need to make room in the garage. So I’m selling my diesel project. First offering is to local CSC folks. I’m just looking to get out of it what I have in it. $1700. If I were to part it out the value would be much more than that but I don’t personally believe in parting out rigs that could be kept on the road. So if that’s your intent then don’t tell me.
Specs:
1983 BJ60 (Canadian model)
3B Diesel engine
H55 Trans (yes the much sought after 5 spd.)/ Split Case TC
PS, PB, No A/C
Stock rims, stock size tires
12V electrical system – yes this is a 12V not a 24V system
Clear AZ Title

History (as it was related to me by a reliable source)
A gentleman bought this truck in Canada and soon after moved to New Hampshire. He then retired to Tucson where the truck has been for 20+ years. It has long since dried out from its northern life and has very little effects of northern winter driving. The truck had been well cared for mechanically before the cylinder head cracked (common for very high mileage 3B’s). It had 493K kilometers (almost 300K mi.) before that happened. The truck would still crank when I bought. It does not appear to have been abused or even wheeled hard, country road driving at worst.

Body is a little rough. It has dents and dings, a few very small rust holes over the rear fender. All the glass is good. The interior is not too bad. Driver’s seat is well worn. The dash pad is in fair condition. It needs a new front carpet and new headliner. Rear carpet and rear seat are fairly decent. I wouldn’t look to restore this truck but it would make a great expedition or trail truck.

There are many options to get this truck back on the road. Such as: Sourcing a lower mileage Canadian 3B (their bodies rust out before the engine gives out), buy a new Australian high nickel cylinder head (widely used in Coasters and LCs down there), or drop in a complete Aussie 3B from Spector or Man-A-Fre (both currently in stock). Complete rebuild kits are also available through Roo Dogs in AU for much less than domestic sources. I also have a set of 4” 60 series lift springs with custom boomerang shackles I bought for it. Selling separately - $400 firm or offer a package deal.

Why couldn't you have posted this in about 2 months when I'll have the money?! been looking to do the 5 speed/diesel route with my 84 FJ60 - now I'll have to kick myself that I'm selfishly wasting money on mortgage and food.

The timing of this deal just hasn't worked out for anyone yet. So I'm bumping for one last call on the local market before I post on the Diesel Forum.

With gas prices rising again I'm sure someone wouldn't mind have a 60 that get 25 MPG!

What type of springs are these? are they 4 inch lift with the shackles or 4 inches springs alone?

The springs are 4" BDS, that are broken in (flexy) but not sagging. I didn't measure the shackle but I'd guess it adds another 1/2 to 1" at a minimum.

I know there were some folks locally that were interested in this project but the timing wasn't perfect. It is still available after several deals have not come together. So 2 months later I thought I'd bump it.

Not for lack of trying. There's been a lot of interest. Not just tire kickers or wanna be diesel owners, but people with a project plan in mind. No one has really turned the truck down based on price or condition. It's been mostly about transporting it, or garage space or trying to sell a truck to buy a truck.

We'll see. Maybe I'm just meant to build this one. Do you need another Pig Clay?

put the BJ drive train in the pig. if i wanted another project i would buy the bj from ya for my daughter. she wants to take over my scout II, but i'm having a hard time letting her.
