I know a lot of us have an SUV, Jeep or other "non" trucks. Although piling bags of trash in the back can work, many don't want to take the risk of hurting the interior of their vehicle or just don't have the room!
If you have a hitch mounted bike rack you may have the perfect alternative. I simply looped the bag back on itself to make sure it gets a good grip and doesn't go anywhere.
Take a look:

Keep in mind that the bags will sway around back there and I don't recommend any highspeed or highway driving with this set up. It may just make the difference in carrying enough trash to make a difference though.

CSC rocks!
Bman goes above and beyond being the point man for the whole clean up. He gets his work to donate to the event. He takes his time to take my calls at all hours and helps me with tons of questions. He's bringing materials for signs, caution tape etc.
AZlane prints out HUNDREDS of great color flyers to advertise and hand out at the event. She does all of the technical stuff converting files, making maps, cleans up my sloppy fliers layout etc.
All of the guys and gals I met at the meeting and on here are cool, giving folks!
I can't wait for the cleanup! Looks like the weather will be about 70, perfect.
THANK YOU.
See you out there if you can make it or on the trail otherwise!

Tom,
Good news. Guess who I got a call from. Jennifer! I'm sending her some more info now.
Thanks for doing that. You sent her a really great email that must have raised her interest.

I work at Channel 3, but I have no pull in the newsroom. I work exclusively on our websites. However, azfamily.com just launched a sub-site called Project Green:
Project Green | AZFamily.com | Home
Maybe if someone submits and article and/or video, it can have a place there. I can propose it to my boss, if you like.
Unfortunately, it's my stepson's birthday this weekend, and his dad will be staying with us, so I can't make it to the actual clean up.

I distributed some fliers here at work, posted a bulletin on my myspace*, and sent a msg out to another wheeling group I'm in (Cactus 4 Wheelers). So hopefully some more ppl will turn out. Oh, and I sent an email to my boss, re: Project Green. Still waiting on a response.
* Does CSC not have a myspace?

Tim - Glad to know you heard back from them... Let's see what happens.
Grrlscout... If you see Mike Watkiss, ask him to check his email for the one I sent him on 1/21... Maybe someone there will bite, as well...
See everyone on Saturday, trailer in tow...

Nicole MacGregor at Channel 12 just wrote to me to say they greenlighted the story, and are doing a "live" newscast about it. Tim, keep your ear to the ground (or you cellphone) today, if they haven't contacted you yet. I wrote back to Nicole to see what time/newscast they are doing it on today, and will post here if she gets back to me with more specifics.
It might take several of us to try to catch the segment on tape/DVR (they're usually really short... 2 minutes max...). So, if anyone does manage to record it, perhaps it can be posted to YouTube or someplace, for everyone to see...

DOH! I hope someone caught it. I was on at 5:30 AM and 6:30 AM for two minutes each. I had no idea when I was going to be on or if it was live etc!
It was live and at 12:00 they may play it again or parts of it at least for a refresher! Thank you!!

WOOHOO!! Let me know if anyone caught it!

You've got to be kidding. Thats exactly where it was. I was parked next to the news van at about 5 through 5:40. Then I took off to get a coffee before the 6:30 taping. When I came back I saw your truck, but didn't recognize it! I saw your FJ right there!
I was watching lights walk up and down the mountain while I waited to go live. I bet that was you!
Crazy, small town sometimes!!

Bummer. Apparently we don't currently have the capability to publish local-only information on Project Green. We put in a request, but it won't go through in time.

WOOHOO!!
What a great day!!! I'll have tons of picks up soon. We had 220 folks sign in and many more that didn't.
Tons of trash were removed and great people were met.
THANK YOU!!
I'm asking that anyone who wants to share pictures posts the LINK as a comment on Four Peaks Pickup so they are all located in one place! Thank you!

First off its great to see the sponsors getting some press and print. They deserve every bit of it.
Secondly, I've signed up to be a member of the Blue Ribbon Coalition. You get the magazine they send out, the latest with the cleanup in it, and it makes you feel great.
BRC and Tread Lightly are just great and I want to support them. Enough talking.
The link is below to the digital version of the BRC magazine about the clean-up. Enjoy!!

Seconding the kudos on the Toyota Trails article. Great to get some national press for a worthy cause and a great local effort. Hopefully it inspires others to pick up the ball and run with it. Way to go Tim!
