Sierra Vista AZ./Fort Huachuca

Greetings, this is a copy of a post I put up in Chat, Coyote sugested I post here too.

Had the unfortunate loss of my wife's uncle and we will be traveling to his army base for a memorial/funeral.

Wanted to ask the mudders what it is like there. I was thinking of finding a place for a hike to remember Bob and celebrate his life in that way. I know he was very much an outdoors person and was known for his advance survival skills.

Bob Kohlman. Career ARMY man, served two tours in Vietnam. He had no children but liked to spoil his two nieces, (one being my wife Lesli). He was a very likeable person and had a great sense of humor...always kidding around. Unfortunately I did not have an opportunity to get to know him very well because when I met him several years ago, he had been diagnosed with advanced alzheimers at an age of 50. to Bob...

So if anyone knows the area, it is just south of Tucson Az., can anyone direct me to things to see and do etc.

Thanks everyone...

You need to drive the Carr Canyon Road to the end (~7000 ft) and hike up to Carr Peak. Suweeeet! 9200' at the top. Killer drive and hike. Then when down stop at the Mesquite Tree for a killer dinner. Enjoy!

That sounds great...But, change of plans.

I will not be going. My wife will attend with her sister, mom and uncle. So there will be Bob's family there. But, after scoping out the cost of airfare, hotel etc., plus the fact that I would need to be off work for three days...Alas, I can not scrape the funds together. We can afford to send the wife.

Most important for her to attend, I wish I could go in support, but just not doable.
