TRAIL RUN ON SAT, APRIL 5th (Several Trails)

IT'S MY BIRTHDAY! LET'S RUN SOME TRAILS! HERE'S THE PLAN. IT'S A PLAN THAT PICKS TRAILS BECAUSE THEY ARE:

Close to Phoenix (so even those non-wagons can come out)
Very scenic
Driveable in ANY stock Land Cruiser
Fun for ANY modified Land Cruiser (because there's some optional stuff)
Doesn't make for a very long day and doesn't start at the crack of dawn

Trails:

*Florence to and through Box Canyon from the south
*Take the Box north to the Ajax Mine Trail (not the rock-crawl trail, the road up to the mine)
*Up from Ajax Mine to the top of the Arizona Trail
*Down Telegraph Canyon Trail past the Apache Tears search area and into Superior

MEETING SPOT: Florence Chevron on AZ79
MEETING TIME: 9:00 AM
PULLOUT: 9:15 AM
TRAILS: Box Canyon, Ajax Mine, Telegraph Canyon
TRAIL RATING: Mostly a 2.5 (out of 5) with a few 3.0 spots
CB CHANNEL: 22
BRUSH: Shouldn't be much along this route though we did get extra rain. I will bring clippers.
MY CELL: 520-975-1723

NOTE: The TTORA (Tacoma Club) annual event is that weekend. I have selected trails that they are not running. No worries about delays.

BRING YOUR FRIENDS! I WANNA HAVE FUN ON MY B-DAY!

Here's a few shotts of things we'll see along these trails (some are optional lines....don't worry stockers):

What a cool turnout of Cruisers! Represented were FJ40, FJ55, FJ62, FZJ80 and UZJ100. It doesn't get much better than that! The weather couldn't have been better either. We took off from Florence and down they dusty Price Road. 11 miles of dirt later we aired down at the start of Box Canyon. We were stoked as the Box was running! Yes, water was trickling all the way through. It was running enough just to keep the tires slippery though we all made it through without issue. After Box we figured we'd see a lot of Taco's due to their annual event in the area, "Arizona Rocks". We took a few minute side trip to the play hills. There, drivers picked their poison choosing from which line to attempt. Don't miss the videos from the hills shown below. Next up was continuing on north up the Box Canyon to the main obstacle of the day. While not difficult the rocky climb looks tough to the eye. Here we encounterd the most traffic and took turns with Taco's going up and down the rock. Our next turn up the trail would be onto the Ajax Mine Road where we would begin the long ascent up to the Arizona Trail. While climbing toward the mine, the wheeler usually gets a peep show down into the canyon where the modified vehicles run the main Ajax Wash. Today, even with the Arizona Rocks event going on....NOBODY WAS DOWN THERE! Bummer! We took a lunch break at the mine overlook, had our club meeting, and avoided the bee hive at all costs. From here the scenery only gets going. Up and up and up. Wash out and wash out and wash out. Then the TOP. WOW! View to the west and view to the east. Killer! Then, the descent. Flowers, flowers, rocks, rocks......it just kept getting better. Eventually we wound up in Superior on the pavement whic ended the trip. I decided to take the scenic way out from the trails end to US 60 so people could air up. At least that's how I recollect it. Some said I got lost while exiting us all through various local neighborhoods. I knew where I was going! [:>) Denial! Great day! What a killer group of folks! Trail rating today...mostly 2.5 with a couple of 3.0 spots...great for any Cruiser. Thanks all for coming!
