weld in round tank carrier in rear floor.

Got a email from greasecar and thay said thay would not sell me the tank if it haungs underneath where the spare tire would normally go. to modify my vehicle for this extra fuel tank I would mount the spare tire on a extrnal swing arm on the vehcile to make room for the second fuel tank. So the idea is to cut out a round area where a spare would normally be like in a car, then weld in a round flat bottomed tub that is simular in shape to a spare tire well. Weld in some stand offs and mounting ring for the round biodiesel fuel tank. Then line it with 1 inch of foam or styrofoam and mount the tank in it. Run the fuel lines to the engine and insuralte it and the water lines comming from the engine. Dont forget to install the filters ect. I might make this a 25 liter tank.

Anyone think this is a good idea?

i was reading the thread from biodiesel gear and one of the catalogs says that cars that was manufactured before 1993 should not use 100% BioD and should mix with PetroD. The mix is BioD 20% or 35%. Also should keep an eye on the fuel lines and injector seals.
You have to take into considerations in the event of you flipping the car over. (touch wood). The fuel tank should be places some where safe. Especially of the possibility of getting rear ended. I still prefer the location of the existing tank.
But its up to you

For 25 liters why bother mounting below, go inside where its warm.

look at the tanks here, and valve. http://www.rainbowtradingpost.co.uk/...tm#Which%20kit

There many marine style tanks you can mount inside.

Remember you are not putting diesel in the tank. Or gas. This is just oil. Its relatively not flammable. Its not vaporous or explosive. Its safe. even the temp is low enough not to be dangerous. Well almost.

I would definately mount inside. Going underneath just makes it harder to fill, an obstruction that can get hit on the trail and harder to heat.

IMOP But if your in Vancouver, its warm there. Anywhere else if we only want to use it 6 months of the year, then we mount external..........

On a BJ60 I would use a 65L tank, like in the link above.

Anything smaller you would not have any range. Think 10-12 Liters per 100kms. So how far do you want to travel? Whats average.

A 25L would be less than 2hrs driving hwy. Cause ya gotta leave some in the bottom, draining it is not an option, otherwise you will bleeding thick oil in the middle of the highway. YUck.

I know the left over methenol in bio can ruin these parts.
I have seen the filler hose and fuel lines from a BJ40 that ran bio-diesel for over a year. They were done. I made the mistake of picking up the filler hose with my bare hands...that black took lots of work to get off. You may not have to change them right away to run bio-diesel, but you will have to change them at some point. You could see the cords on the filler tube...the rubber was gone.
