found this site while browsing 21 PONIES: Save your gas! you can watch the vid, he puts a small diesel into a neon, with a 20hp electric motor on the front of it to assist.

probably take him years to get back the money he spent, but it makes a person wonder, what gains you'd see by adding an electric motor to the front of a diesel.

3b for example. it'd have to make a difference you'd think, the diesel wouldn't be working quite as hard...

anyone found any other sites about this sorta thing?

I've been doing a lot of thinking and reading about diesel-electric hybrid ideas. Most of the info seems to be people who made electric cars for $20,000 that have a 30 mile range.

yeah, I've seen a few of those too. this is more "electric assisted" .

or parallel hybrid I guess, tho it would never be electric only.

be interesting to see a graph, of what sort of gains you could get from adding that sortof thing to a diesel.

wouldn't be super $$ to just add the motor and controllers etc, question is how many mpg would it get you...
