Facts About Resturant Oil

Fellas, I just found this section....awsome because I just purchased a biopro 190.
I have read many of your threads and a reoccuring theme has led me to for once be an expert of sorts on mud. Here goes.

Oil from a resturants fryers belongs to the rest, UNTIL it goes into the collection companies tank.
Collection companies PAY rest to take this oil. Usually 1-5 cents per gal/pound. Not much.

With this info maybe your future personal collections can be more fruitful. Ask them the current price they are recieving. Double it and offer that to them. Have them put the oil right back into the plastic 5gal containers it came in. And ask when would be a good day time for you to pick up.

I hear a lot of BS about getting them to put the oil in your conatiner outside there rest. Many reasons why this probably won't fly. Health inspectors will roast them, it is nasty, it is more of a PITA than the above mentioned way. Also how in the hell are you going to move 55gals of nasty oil. Why work that hard.

NEVER TRY TO NEGOTIATE DURING MEALTIMES. Any operator is going to dislike you from the start. Call ahead and see when the operator is free. Usually before your lunch break or after. An operators lunch break is before yours. HE/she works during your lunchbreak so go there and eat lunch but do not try to talk with them. Also operators are really loyal. Eat with them regularly. Or get oil from rest where they already know you as a regular.

When I was collecting oil I ran into a problem with two local asian food restaurants that wanted steel (preferably stainless) containers so they could drain their fryers while hot. The three other places I was collecting from were all very willing to use my provided setup which consisted of a bag-type filter on top of a 5 gallon plastic bucket and a snap-on bucket cover. I found basic filtering of the big chunks at the source was very helpful if they were willing to do it.

Keep in mind around here restaurants still pay to have their used oil hauled away for them. I was collecting for free. I was collecting 25 - 50 gallons/month.

I no longer collect my own oil because my usage wasn't enough to justify the expense of a reactor. I gave away 200 gals of fryer oil recently and instead purchase about 50 gals/month form a relatively local brewer that produces 10,000 gallon batches for $2.66/gal.

$2.66 a gallon! Holy crap for used oil! I'm getting into that business!

That was for biodiesel not used veggie oil. Compare that to $4.30/gallon for regular diesel and I think it's a pretty good deal. I guess I should have been more clear in my post.
