Anyone using a Greasecar SVO system?

This system seems to be the most prolific around here (Pac. NW.). Seattle, Portland, and Spokane all have mechanics who specialize in installing systems. The in car electronic controls look like they're supposed to be there: not like something your crazy uncle wired up. It has heat-up and purge alarms.

Ideas? Arguments?

I've read very good things about Frybird's systems when I was looking into getting one. There are some good WVO / Biodiesel forums out there, check them out.

yep

We have a huge WVO community here in Ithaca NY and I have not heard of any horrible stories from our local greaseheads. Greasecar is the most widely used system here besides our own VegPower. It is a good and reputable company. There is plenty to read about it. I would give them a go. It seems like any older diesels take to WVO much better than new cars. Older Merc and VW seem to be the engines of choice. Don't see why Toyota would be any different.

dieselcruiserhead is an unknown quantity at this point
Frybrid and Plant drive also seem to have excellent components but they are expensive...

I have a GC kit, I like it. They have great service after the sale (ie folks who answer the phone when you call and have info for you) which is great if you are putting it in a cruiser. There is no ready made kit out there for a LC, so they will all be custom, ie take a long time and cost a lot of money. GC did mine exactly like I asked and the cost was reasonable for what it was. Go for it! What kind of cruiser are you putting it in?

I've got an 82 HJ60. Did you get the heat up and purge alarm systems with your GC?

I did get the "buzzbox" alarm for if I shut it off on veg, and it has saved my rear at least once. I recommned that one, its worth the money. Just to be aware, we are still trying to figure out how to set up the purge function on the 2H, since it doesn't return fuel to the tank it is a little wierd. I think it can be done, but needs more fooling around. So, now I just have to run a bit longer at start and shut down.

I'm doing a greascar for my Jetta with these extras:

1. Viton hose - not using the hose they sent; you need good hose
2. Bendable Alum hose - to rap the filter in
3. 16 layer heat plate - to provide extra heating
4. VO Computer - fuel/temp gage with auto purge

From what I have read, heating and purging are 2 key things that need to be done correctly or you will have problems. So the WVO has to hot, at least 160, before it is allowed to enter the IP, and you need to purge the fuel lines of WVO before shutdown.

I have a guy that does this for a living to help me with my install.

HTH,

The greascar kit works very well in my 73 220D benz. Make sure to use the buzz box and do a good job prefiltering your fuel.

out of curiosity, i called the GC folks and spoke to a very knowledgeable gear head fella, bottom line, it'll cost around 3 grand to get it done if they installed it for ya. they recommended the flat plate and getting a bigger fuel valve for an older Blazer diesel, bout 120 bucks, so higher flow valve. they asked if my rig had an electronic low pressure lift pump (that feeds the high pressure fuel pump), its a 1HDT motor, btw. not sure yet. and suggested the 15G tank that measures 32x11x10inches, and voila cheap eco friendly fuel!
1200 for the kit, 120 for valve upgrade, 250 for flat plate heater (suggested), 300 for co-pilot, bout 1000 labour.....
okay to run with other engine mods like uppin the boost and a 3" exhaust, intercooler....
anyway, mucho dollars but well worth in the long long run.... got me thinking about value and stuff i need and want...would or should this go in place of a lift and bumpers/wheels? if money was an issue??? decisions....

approx. 3000?

I'm likely around 3000. or so in parts costs but we're doing all our own wrenching. I'm using the 6 way valve from Greasecar.

Like another post indicated, there really is no 'kit' for any LC so mine like everyone else's is customized.

I went with a longrange aftermarket tank that was built for my 40 series as my cargo space is reserved for my surf and camping gear! That and the fact that I'm attempting to overkill the heat aspect of things slightly (5 different heat sources-2 from water and 3 electric), has jacked up the price of my project.
I don't care too much about the initial costs as it takes me approx. 250. in fuel costs every surf trip to the coast. So basically thats 12 trips and it's paid for. The difference is I'll have to drag some filtered fuel with me. I guess I'll look like Mad Max, the only thing missing will be the guy in the hockey mask and the ass-less chaps chasing me down for my fuel!

The point is I wanted to try to get the temps up of the fuel and be sure the water is out of the mix (raycor filter) so my initial costs are higher. Hopefully I'll avoid future problems b/c of it's over engineered.
I guess we'll see.
I'll try to post some pics soon.

purging

Frank,
We're figuring out the same situation with regards to purging my 3B. At this point we figured we're going to use a ball valve to keep purge fuel pressure up. The transfer pump delivers more fuel than the IP uses.
I hope it works (and maybe helps your cause).
