power loss on WVO blend
I have an 87 HJ 60 which I recently purchased. After 500 km of driving on a mix of 50% WVO blend (RUG, kero, solvent)and 50% diesel I started to experience power loss. I think I have narrowed it down to the fuel line from the tank becoming plugged.
I blew air pressure through the supply line back into the tank and there was definitely a restriction that finally cleared. Drove again another 20 km and happened again. Blew again, drove again, plugged again. This really blows. ![]() I suspect the WVO loosened up crud in the tank. Is there a strainer in the tank? How does one clean out the tank? Any suggestions? Thanks. |

I would suggest pulling the tank and taking it down to your local radiator shop and have them boil it out---should clean anything that will likely come loose running WVO.

I've done some further research and the previous owner told me the tank was replaced recently. He forgot to tell me that the tank cap didn't vent so he'd always leave it loose -- thanks!
Even after I loosened it the engine will still quit after 20 min. of driving and then there's air in the fuel system. If I bleed the air with the manual pump I can get it running again for another 20-30 minutes.Could I have done damage when I blew air pressure back into the tank? I checked the fuel line connection to the tank and it's good. I tried to remove my tank but with a welded trailer hitch in, it will be a royal PITA. What is the pick up tube like inside the tank? Could it have slipped apart or broke when I blew air pressure? I'm tempted to put a line fitting in the drain hole in the bottom of the tank to run my supply line from there. Is that an ok idea? |
