What to buy a bio-diesel guy for x-mas? Gift suggestions needed...

Folks...I tend to stay over on the 40 series board, but am looking for solid suggestions for my brother in law. He drives a large dodge pick up, diesel and is in the process of converting to bio-diesel. He is actually a chemistry teacher and has made bio-diesel in his classroom...he knows all about the chemical processes at work.

Anyway...I know he has plans to build his own set-up in a garage. What can I get to help him along....an emblem? A filter? Books? PH testers?

Thanks.

This would be a good place to start.

http://www.utahbiodieselsupply.com/

They have quite a variety of biodiesel related stuff. Certain things such as scales, and ph meters are quite handy. Also, measuring containers, mixing vials, syringes, and buckets are always needed. If your brother in law is planning an appleseed style processor, Utah Biodiesel Supply has 3/4 inch ball valves for great prices.

Regards,

Scoot

How about a few fuel filters?...Just joking, practical but maybe a little too practical. Tony

I would not advertise the fact he is using bio... next thing you know his state/province will want his share of unpaid road tax. Some have been convicted already.

Seriously? Unpaid road tax?

Get him a McDonald's franchise for an unlimited fuel supply.

Get him some barrels. The ones with the completly open top and the ring that snaps around to seal the lid on are nice. Good for settling, storing etc, and with the open lid you can peek inside and see whats going on.

Thank you all for these great suggestions. I am actually going to print out this thread and include it with his gifts so that he has some additional leads. I figure a guy that is biting the bullet on his own diesel brewing set-up is pretty well versed and familiar with bio-diesel sites....but this is good info just the same.

I went to the Utah Bio-Diesel Supply site and bought some items on sale....things that were small, but seemingly useful.

Thank you for the great tips.

For a dodge (Cummins turbo diesel), depending on the year, I would get him a sensor that measures his lift pump fuel pressure after the fuel filter and has a very bright idiot light and buzzer that mounts near the driver's side of the dash board. If the lift pump cannot supply the pressure and volume required, the injection pump WILL fail and it's a little costly to replace.
