Guys, PlantDriver has an 80 with an 1HD-FT in it, would be super interesting to find out how he's doing with his veggie conversion for use folks with more recent Toyota Diesels, I was under the impression that engine was not suitable for it (direct injected, rotary pump), but I've read somewhere else (on a site in the UK), that the Denso injection pump is suitable for veggie conversion.
Unless I'm mistaken and latter 1HD-FTs have inline pumps... __________________ 91HDJ81VX (The Beast), 4B JDM, since Nov 06 83BJ60 (The Old Faithful), Still Running, Gone to a New Home 83BJ60 (Rusty but Trusty), Dec 90 - July 98, Parted Out 76FJ40 (Big Red), April 87 - July 93 |

I don't think rotary and direct injection matters too much if you ask me, that is what my setup is...

It does mater to a lot of other "WVO" users. Rotary IPs are much less tolerant of any moisture in the oil, and don't like variations in viscosity caused by temperature and type of oil. There are far fewer reported problems with inline IPs.

Well your sig line says biodiesel, which is totally different than running vegetable oil.

It might work just fine. Rotary IPs require high quality clean dry VO, between 150°F and 200°F, introduced to an IP at normal hot operating temperatures. Most failures come with wet oil, and cold oil injected into a cold IP. Sure it can be done, it just requires more diligence and attention to detail, both in processing used VO, and switching and purging a two tank system.

I am [obviously] very aware of the difference between biodiesel and VO.... I'm just saying that I know plenty of people running VO through their Bosch VE rotary pumps and other rotary pumps and they are fine.. Direct injection, that one I personally think is even less of a issue, I cannot understand how precups would cause vegetable oil to run that much better.. I've personally never heard of anyone having issues with vegetable oil that were related to the engine being direct injected? My guess is more misinformation left over from the Journey to Forever site... That said while indirect or Mercedes engines seem to be more "tolerant" of crappy fuel/water in the fuel system etc, I personally don't think it makes it any more acceptable to run vegetable oil. My personal plan is to definitely strongly filter and dewater and VO prior to running...

Well I'm glad to hear from others such as yourself on this issue. It makes it all more of a possibility now for people such as myself with the 1HD-T to run their vehicles on VO or suitably cleaned WVO. I sincerely hope the day will come where I will be freed from slavery to Big Oil, and it would seem that this will happen in my lifetime
![]() Thanks for the updated information
