Why does the Tacoma not have a V-8

Why did the Tacoma not get a V-8, isn't the drivetrain the same as the 4-Runner i.e. diffs, axles etc. Maybe it's just a marketing thing! I would love to see a V-8 Tacoma, anyone know if there's any plans in the works!

I think the 245 hp v6 is more than sufficient for that rig. The 4runner is heavier so they offered the torqier v8.

I thought the weight thing may have been a factor too, but after looking at both vehicles curb weight I'm not really sure about that. The V-6 4Runner only outweighs a quadcab V-6 Tacoma by 250 pounds, not very much weight! I was also thinking maybe they wanted to keep it seperated from the Tundra, but then the 4Runner, Sequioa and Landcruiser all have the same V-8(with the exception of the Landcruiser not getting the newer version) anyway just thinking outloud!

V8 taco would take sales away from the Tundra. I am just guessing they will slap the 4.7 V8 in the Taco when the new Tundras come out

That's what I was gonna say, if the Taco had the V8 there would be almost no reason for the Tundra. Once the Tundra goes big (size and engine), the Taco will probably have a V8 offering.

There isn't a market for big V8's, gas is too much. Still I'm sure toyota's V8 is more fuel efficent than anyone elses.
