What do you think about the 2005 Tacoma?

I like the new 2005 Tacoma. I was wondering if any of you have heard anything good or bad about it.

I want one too. I don't think there has been any negative remarks yet. Try edmunds.com

They doo look good and that 4.0 V6 is a really good engine. I'll wait for the super charger to come out for it.

'05 Tacoma

I am seriously considering one. The engine is impressive (4.0). One neat feature is the oil filter placement. Right inside the hood, up high with a catch under it for a small amt. of oil. I change my oil but hate the mess it makes of my front end (3.0 V6). The seats are much improved.

You'll never see the supercharger for the 4.0... I'll put money on that... Too many 3.4's cracking heads right now, too much trouble with the fuel systems... TRD doesn't even have the 4.7 SC out for the 03 + models.

Things not to like about the new Taco.

- The frame is c-channel from cab back.
- exhaust routing is by far the dumbest thing I've ever seen.
- jury is still out on the composite bed.
- Rack and pinion steering - wasn't good for off-road before, isn't good now
- size... this is a plus and minus, of course
- push button 4wd only (I believe - don't quote me)

Toyota will always be my favorite, but the trucks are going downhill... There's a long thread about this on YotaTech and 4x4wire... Lots of good info...

nice thing is the price. My '04 retails now for $1K more than I paid for it over a year and 20K miles ago. Trade is only a couple grand less than I paid...

I really like the 05 tacoma. But not as an off road vehicle. They have gotten seriously soft, but for a daily driver/commuter/home depot run truck it's perfect. I have owned 3 of the "older" tacomas, all v-6's and I thought those were pretty wimpy compared to the older toyotas. And I actually prefer the way my old 89 pickup drives over the last generation tacoma. But I'm considering trading in my commuter acura rsx for a 4 cyl 05 extracab. The 2.7 with variable valve timing is impressive. Feels a lot like my old tacomas 3.4 in regular driving. I really like the way they drive, and 23mpg isn't bad for a daily driver. Of course the cruiser isn't going anywhere, and neither is my 89. The 89 has quite a few good years left in it for plowing my driveway and hauling crap around my property. Just gotta get rid of the acura, its the only non-toyota in the yard.

It is bitching.

4.0 is awesome. Toyota really hit it out of the park with this motor. 5spd auto and 6spd manual are both exceptional.

Exhaust hangs down in one place and can easily be fixed.

Rack and pinion has been placed in a mechanically advantagious location allowing it to operate more efficiently.

Turning radius reduced dramatically.

Tons of configurations available.

Still small enough for "jeep" trails.

E-locker available on TRD models.

Aftermarket has already geared up for huge support.

Wish I could get one...
