austins introduction

Hello all, im new to Ih8mud but im not new to yotatech and ORTTORA so you might recognize my username from one of those forums.

I dont own a landcruiser, though i would like to and probably will shortly, but i do intend on putting an FZJ-80 front axle under my 04 tacoma, which is where i hope this forum will really help.

A little about me. I have an associates degree in automotive and management, several other certifications, and I almost have my ASE master cert. I live in Bend Oregon and have a pretty elaborate shop.

Now a little about the tacoma im doing the SAS on.

THE NOW
-5vz-fe/r150F (3.4/5spd)
-6 puck aisin clutch, minor engine mods, beefy motor mounts
front end
-donahoe(icon) 3" extended travel coilovers
-allpro chromoly uniball controll arms
-beard limiting straps
-cryoed CV's
-diff drop
-1" lowered, stronger spring buckets, random other reinforcements
-beefy winch bumper with warn xd9000i
-belly armor
-haneman 3" flare fiberglass fenders
rear end
-demello frame reinforcements
-allpro 5leafers
-rancho RS5000's
-e-locker, 4.10 yukon gears, timken bearings, dana 60 tripple drilled flange
-superior 4340 chromoly axles

theres a bunch of other crap inside the truck and whatnot, but thats just to give you an idea.

THE PLANS

-FZJ80 front axle, eventually will include an e-locker
-custom 3-link with nice heim joints
-standard steering, also with nice heim joints and a stronger tierod
-pickup IFS power steering box
-1" body lift
-1" motor and tranny raise
-T100 oilpan
-R151 pass-drop Tcase
-modified driveline
-notched frame
-coil towers possibly comming out the top of the fenders (ultimate taco status)
-quick disconecting swaybar

I never wanted to SAS my tacoma, i like driving fast on and off the road, and my IFS functions pretty well, the only problem is that -like a dumbass- i beat the living hell out of my poor truck for its whole life before upgrading anything, and now its seeing the consequences, particularly in the front end.

My goal is to keep this truck as low and stable as possible, im not really interested in having massive articulation, just added durability, on road handling is a must, and i would preffer not to go any larger on tires as i have nearly new 33" BFG km2's on the truck already.

sorry for the long first post, juts venting some ideas, please critisize anything possible in any way you can so that i can plan this swap out as thoroughly as possible.

great thanks for the support, hopefully i will be aquiring the axle here shortly, progress is slow at the moment because i have suddenly been given the offer to buy some very nice metal machinery at a low cost so my money might go to that immediately as the offer is limited by time, either way it will just make the build that much better to have the extra resources

Welcome! Looking forward to your build. I've often thought about doing a SAS on my Tacoma, but am
not much of a wrench. Bend sure is a nice place to wheel.

yeah the more i think about it the more excited i get to start with the swap, im just waiting on an axle at this point, dont know if i want to buy a normal one or wait a little longer to spring for an e-locker one right off the bat.

Theres tons of wheeling here in central oregon, once im done with the swap ill prolly be frequenting browns camp more often though.
