Buying an 05 Tacoma

I am buying a 05 tacoma prerunner 4 door pickup. When I test drove it a maintanace light was on. Is this the same as change engine oil soon light on any other vehicle? ( I figured it was oilchange, dirty air flow saensor or something along those lines) Thoughts?

That is correct, the maintenance light is just a count down or timer for an oil change.

I am getting it for 17k. It has 39,00 miles and was owned by an old man who died. I hear these are excellent trucks. I had a 94 toyota 4x4 truck before. I love my FJ-40 so I am sure I will like this truck.

Just to be sure, you know pre-runners are 2WD only right?

Yeah. I know that they are 2wd. I sold my old truck (dodge quad cab) for better mileage so I wanted the best mileage I could get out of a 4 dr truck. Plus my fj-40 has 4wd so thats all I need.

You won't see much difference in MPG between 2WD and 4WD. Perhaps 1 or 2MPG. They are good trucks, though. Good luck with it. And post up when you want to get started on the 4x4 conversion.
