Gearing for 96 taco ext.cab 4X4 2.7

Have a 96 taco ext.cab 4x4 with a 2.7l 31x10.5's, K&N intake, Flowmaster 40

I have 3.58 gears and hate em. I do a lot of up hill freeway driving for work and have to use 3rd gear screemin to get up the hills. Truck runs great and does excellent in town but I need some more poop on the freeway. Any one know what gears I should go with? Local shop told me 4.10's for daily driver but I want a little more pep than stock, 4.56's or maybe 4.88's? Don't know if these would be to low or not? Don't want to totally kill the mpg. Right now I am about 2500 in 5th gear doing 70 and there is no power, lose speed on flat ground, well almost

Id go with 4.10 or 4.30's if you can find them. Ive got 4.30's and 31's and its probably the ideal setup. I went from the 3.58's and 31's it was night and day. I do have a 4cyl 5spd extra cab taco also. Unless your going to go with a larger tire I wouldnt do 4.56 or 4.88. 4.56 is for up to 33's and 4.88 is for 33-35's maybe larger.

unless your taco is the TRD flavour, you cant get 4.30's as they're only available for the 8". i'd go 4.56's. im surprised yours came only with the 3.58 gears. are you sure thats whats in there now?

grab a full regear setup from JT's. if you plan on going bigger than the 31's you might want to think about 4.88's. if not...4.56's will get you in a good usable power band, and you wont be too buzzy on the freeway if you went with 4.88's and 31" tires...

on my door code I have B02A , so I'm assumin there the 3.58's. Kinda suprised myself an ext. cab would have high gears like that. All I know is 3rd gear is all I can do to get up steep hills on the freeway.

like I said. it was a day and night difference. 4.10's are easy to find. buy the whole axle assembly's used and you dont need to set up any gears. 4.56 can be found used too but are much harder to find they will rev a little for my likeing on the highway.

For me going 80mph on the highway with my 31's and 4.30's I tach 3k. I really wouldnt want to tach any higher. Also on a trip I get 22mpg.

Somthing else to think about is that any lower then 4.30's used with 31's you will not be able to get your speedo to read right unless you buy a electronic box. There around 100+ or so last time I checked. You can get very close using a different speedo gear in the t-case. Thats less then $30
