Knob versus shifter on t-case
Ok so all the 4wd vehciles I have owned had a shifter for the t-case...Now I am thinking about buying a Tacoma and see there is no t-case shifter ....just a dial...should I be concerned or has Toyota made this work and work well???

I sure hope so. I had a push button 4x4 switch on a Ford Explorer that would freeze on cold mornings-the times I really needed 4WD. My Tacoma has the transfer case shifter. Is this on the new model?

So far I haven't heard of any problems (since they came out in '05). I can guarantee it's a better system than the forge exploder

I haven't really done much research cause I am still in the early stages of trying to decide if I want a new or slightly used Tacoma...But the whole shifter is more appealing to me... Thanks for the info on the year change

My Tundra had the push button 4hi/4lo set up and it hasnt failed me yet. I do have the extended warranty so when it does
they can fix it!![]() Ive also reserved to the idea that when the warranty is long gone, I will go to a manual setup. __________________ "When all else fails, lock the hubs and head for the neighbor's lawn!" 2004 Tundra DC 4x4 - Camburg LT, SAW, Bilstein, Demello sliders, ProComp wheels, BFG A/T KO,TRD, K&N, ICOM 208H, Pioneer AVIC D3, Polk Audio, SnugTop, Scanegauge II, and much more to come..... |

I have had no problems, and I was certainly skeptical when I bought mine in 05.
It sure is nice to be able to go in and out of 4WD, moving or stopped or WHENEVER! __________________ - 1983 FJ60 - 229K 2.5" Man-a-fre HD leaf springs, HFS shocks 4runner Calipers, 4.11 thirds 33x10.50MT's Wilderness Roof Rack CORN TACO - DD - 2005 Tacoma Double cab with Ethanol full flex converter ARB Front bumper w. warn winch and PIAA lights 3" Toy Tec Lift Rock-tec rear bumper |

I had a 98 4Runner with a push button 4WD that would sometimes give me troubles (of course when it was pounding snow outside!). My 02 4Runner had the same system, and it being newer, I've only had trouble with it engaging once. I think the key is, always, and I mean ALWAYS, excersize the 4WD system every month or every other week.
But on my Tacoma, I have the shifter (on-the-fly) and personally, I like it better. __________________ 2001 Tacoma DC TRD Off-Road |
